Someone was advertising loadshedding solutions but technically we have outages now. His title wasnt the best. Seems he didnt take kindly to the suggestions from the people to stop calling it loadshedding and deleted his post.

R6!!!!!! That's ridiculous. At least we live in a warm country with short winters, would hate to use heating for longer than a couple of months.

You usually have your heating and warm water connected/combined. I have an "odd" case where my warm water is separate as doing building heating split, while have a "through" heater that kicks in only for warm water. It's about 20 EUR /R400pm (that includes gas inspection and yearly cleaning) for household. Ends up like 6c/unit about (little less), think 8c blended, so R1.60.

Electricity is at about 24c last I checked, so R4.80, with fixed charge blended it's about R4.90.

Heating with electricity is one of the most expensive forms of heating, only if heat pump that's like 3x+ efficient does it make sense.

Just received the notification of July 1st's 12.8% increases here in NMBM - I know it's October, they apparently don't.



Looks like I could save R60 p/m going prepaid but I don't think I will.

I can confirm this happens.

My deal with my tenant was that they have to pay the municipal bill. They didn't and it got subtracted when they wanted to buy electricity

It's the big motivating factor for municipalities to switch people over to prepaid. You can't buy electricity while you're in arrears.

it depends on the multiplicity some do use the prepaid to pay of debt but legally they have to still give you some electricity on the purchase

you in one building do you have electricity (and water) meters directly with the municipality?
Im guessing the fact that you all forced means the BC is doing this (so private not municipal meters) - and they will also probably use this to recoup unpaid levies as well

why not save yourself R71.74 a month - plus more control and as its still stepped tariff if you can keep your summer usage under 500KWh, you can build a reserve and save in winter

Bulk calculations from Citypower for 2months ...see variations this is for under 150 units.

Why are they fluctuating the rate? are they on some TOU tariff?
Private prepaid so you going to go with whoever the BC is using
the cons are what ever extra fees this private prepaid is tacking on
pro (in Private prepaid) depending on this fluctuation rate it should be a flat rate (which might be a pro or a con)

More control? Not sure I get that one. I have both control and convenience with post-paid - that's worth the R60 to me.

Anyway, my average monthly usage, for a family of four, is in excess of 500kwh.

They are in a big drive to recover money. I personally support it. People should pay their bills. People that don’t are the same that complain when the services are not provided.

True. For CoT prepaid if you are say R3000 behind on your municipal bill (the previous months bill rolled over to this month, say on the 18th of this month), then with all prepaid electricity purchases after that it gets withdrawn until the R3000 backlog is met, so if you by R4000 you get R1000 of electricity, as the first R3000 went to CoT municipal bill.
