Its a flat rate that is locked in for 12 months. I can either do Flex (changes daily), 1 year locked or 2 year locked.

Electricity is 4x to 5x the price of gas in the UK (give or take), but a heatpump is claimed to be up to 3x more efficient in heating your home, so your bill is going UP irrespective of what you do when you moving over to a heatpump.

The UK gauavamint has incentive schemes giving you a £7500 rebate on the install of a heatpump to try and mitigate this, but I am not falling for that crap.

Use gas for heating, cooking and to heat your geyser @R1.2 per unit and bobs your uncle.

The maximum prices (price caps) are, not actual retail prices. E. G. Octopus and others offer overnight tariffs as low as 7-8p/kWh (for car charging) , they offer free hours, free days etc... (or full blown time of use).

Where are you - happy to explain what you should be charged and if you give which site / number of apartments etc. could do a whole work up!
(in general sites agree with PEC or someone when they are built and they milk 20-30% profit for years just to avoid BC hassle - - that made sense in 2011 when it was R10/month, now it's hundreds)

Most of the time the complex makes nothing. They just outsource the whole thing... Well the developer outsourced the whole thing to avoid paying for meters, and now tenants and the BC have lost out of a good way of paying for stuff!

There was a prepaid token article that laid out how the Eskom employees were printing the tokens and selling them of cheap in bulk, some even gave them to their family and friends and cost Eskom billions (Not eskom, but us). Eskom said they stopped the corruption last week.

I was having a chat at the gym with some guys about corruption in the country, and I mentioned the Eskom thing, the guy last week bought those tokens; Eskom says they stopped it. He spent 300 rand and got 900 rand worth of units. He bought it for his parents in Limpopo.

Shows you half the crap coming out of the news is rubbish. Eskom says they stopped corruption, and the reality is that nothing has stopped. They are just making it look like the corruption is being dealt with, but if you are making millions, why stop the corruption?

You might be correct, I think it's outsourced.

The ones I have been told about make a profit. I don't fully understand how, but they supposedly do.

You are paying the proper rate, but you're also paying the connection and network fee that is being split between your units. R3.88 isn't far off the R3.03 from City Power for the first 350 units and it goes up to about R4 for every unit after 500.
