Spending +/- R2k on electricity at the moment.

I've noticed in this house turning the geyser on and off makes a massive difference in usage (40% or so). Previous house not so much.

I'm in a complex. There's never been mention of a supplier (I've been here since 2017). So I'm assuming Eskom Direct then.

There is the problem, they get one big bill and split it.

Both houses have geysers in the ceiling. The new house is probably just set a bit hot.

The child showers like this so it probably explains the half of the elect and water bill

Enlighten me. What does mixer taps have to do with it?

I think even if you do not want warm water tap is always set to middle so whenever you open tap you pull hot water and adding cold water to geyser.
I know my kids would do that and not even wait for warm water to come before switching tap off.

Everyone likes to put the tap in the middle so it looks straight so every time you open the tap to wash your hands cold water enters the geyser.

Usually purchases are done on a sliding scale reset monthly, the more you use the more you pay.

Fake news. Electricity gets progressively more expensive the more you buy each month. The price is dependant on how much you buy, not when you buy (although buying on the first obviously means you're guaranteed to still be on the lowest tier for the month).

A friend of mine moved to a new a house, and through luck, after a couple of years, found out that the one toilet cistern was connected to the geyser.
