A 9kg probably lasts us 2-3 months - maybe a little longer. Our oven is electric though.

Thank you. The stove I am looking at, also has an electric oven.

Which make and model do you have?

The average household - 2 Occupants - can work on 1 kg per month

9kg, about 5 months, I have a gas oven though..don't use it much it sucks.

Yes, gas stove at home. Wife and I cook in the evenings and sometimes twice a day on weekends.

This includes the twice a month soup that uses the stove for 4 hours.

Mine's a SMEG - not sure of the model - with 5 gas burners.

I keep two 19kg cylinders - always have two so if one runs out, you can just switch over.
These last about 18 months, together - gas hob only, electric oven - but, granted, I used to have an extremely busy home catering business - still cheaper than electricity.

Poncey damn American :p

My folks have a Defy 5 burner, and the 19kg bottles last about 6 months for a family of 3.... and it gets used 3 times a day every day.

Great news. Thank you Stef and Bwana.

I was looking at buying 2x 9kg bottles for the stove. So I wil definately have enough gas.

I was warned by many that they do indeed excel in the suckage department

I used to get the bigger bottles but I'm pretty lazy and since we've always got half full gas bottles for the braai and heaters I usually just swap them over when the oven runs out. :)

Gas Ovens are just pooh... hotspots all over the place and they drink gas as well.

Why dont they put a fan into gas ovens then to distribute the heat evenly as with electric ovens?
The fan in an electric oven completely changes the dynamics of cooking in it when you use it.

But all ovens have it now. Soon as you switch on the oven you can hear the fan start up. I would think that putting a fan into a gas oven will have the same benefit as in electric?

My oven has a conventional oven mode (no fan) and a convection oven mode (fan assisted).
