How much gas do you use

Depends on what I'm cooking. If I'm cooking a roast then the fans are on, if I'm baking then I keep them off. I always start with them on because the oven heats up faster and then switch them off if necessary.

you do get gas convection ovens but remember that gas ovens only heat from the bottom while electric ovens have elements on the top and often at the rear.

I have a double defy oven. Top is normal cooking, bottom is both normal and conventional. Love the conventional - things cook much quicker and baking is awesome. You just have to remember to drop the temp by 10 degrees.
 
Ovens built into cupboards have a fan to extract hot air from the cupboard. It has no effect on cooking. Almost all ovens with internal fans have the option to have them on or off.

Same thing. ;) It's conventional and convectional.
 
Gas ovens generally have very bad thermal regulation compared to electric and are not very good for baking. Gas stoves suck, induction is the only option.

I got 2x 48kg cylinders. Lasts years and years and cost about R2k to refill both.

Remember you now need a CoC for a gas installation.

Gas stoves rock, would pick it over induction any day. Induction is also considerably more expensive to run.

I have a Defy 5-burner, just 2 of us in the house, and it is used on average twice per day.
A 9kg LPG bottle (9 kg only because it fits nicely in an adjacent kitchen cupboard) lasts us about 6 months (but we do use our 2x microwaves a lot instead of using the gas hob, e.g. for winter morning Jungle Oats porridge, or scrambled eggs, etc.)

Those are the mornings we have all five burners on high... and we're not even cooking anything. :o

Both of course. Are you sure you have used an induction hob before?

Cost wise it is a lot cheaper to use induction than gas. Gas works out about R2/kWh in SA. Gas cooking is also only about 50% efficient, since half the heat goes past the sides of the pot (feel free to look up exact numbers, but it is very close to that). Induction hobs are around 90% efficient...

Indeed, I have one standing next to my gas stove, use it occasionally (especially if I need to boil water for pasta or something). Induction is a lot more efficient I'll give you that, but the question of cost is more complicated than that and depends on a lot of factors. I pay R172 for 9kg of gas, works out to less than R1.50/kWh. Electricity tariffs in Pretoria are between R1.28 and R1.67/kWh depending on usage for prepaid, and slightly less for normal but then you have to include the connection rate, so about the same.

Where I stayed in Jhb I paid R210 for 9kg though, so then it becomes less cost effective.

And yes, I still prefer gas as it just feels better (for me) and I feel more in control of the heat (which I know is not really the case but it feels like it).
 
I've had my gas stove 7 months now and still using the original 9Kg cylinder. 2 adults, 1 kid.
