How much will you really save on ADSL?

As a current Telkom ADSL customer, how do you rate the August 2006 ADSL prices?

One thing goes down, another goes up... in the end we're not saving anything at all... merely the illusion of saving something.

Hi Playkiller no.2

Thanks for pointing out the mistake…fixed.

I think this kind of comparison is necessary to highlight the effective saving on ADSL. ADSL is sold as a bundled product, so every time one of the components are reduced Telkom can claim ‘x % reduction on ADSL’. Not good!

RPM

no.. you can buy 2.5x a coke, a pie and kit kat rofl. yeah I'd have like the least cost for a adsl line to come down rather than upgrade.

A quick question about the article:

I'm on DSL192 currently, however looking at the table it notes a 2gig cap, whereas I have a 3gig cap. There is also an asterisk (*) next to the DSL192 cell in the table, but no defined footnote?

Perhaps, and this is most likely the case, I am just an idiot.

Is there something I am missing here, I wouldn't want to waste the putting on of my party hat.

*puts on party hat*

YAY!

(Yet somehow I feel sick that this makes me happy)

I want to know how much money SAIX and Telkom Internet make. There is no mention of either in terms of their contribution to the group in the annual report. Maybe because Telkom don't want the angry hordes burning down their data centre when they discover how badly they are being ripped off.

*sigh*, still no real affordable entry level solution for South Africans on the cards.

Yeah right, but the illusion of the R100 odd bucks in my pocket will be spend nicely. Could by me at least 1 or 2 GB extra per month on my cap.

Some ones maths also does not make sense, (typical negative hype!). I have a 384 line so my total saving is a definite 15% if the table is correct. Not the 12% claimed in bold.

Rather start to be optimistic as the first round was won, now take on telkom and go for the second round and get further victories.

Telkom has now taken a step to play us for fools. Good luck Papi with your customer centricism!!!

but these proposed savings are just that "proposed"... Cant ICASA say something.. I really dont need a 384 K line.. in fact, because of Telkom, my ADSL cost is going up in the region of R20 per month in total, because I am with cybersmart. So Telkom has raised my Total Cost of Ownership..

Telkom really does suck.. I hope ICASA says prices need to come down more on the low end, and more across the spectrum, because I think they they are still profiteering, just marginally less than before.

Nice article and comparison. Thanks! :)

Is there any official reason as to why line rental is being increased?
