And another thing - Choccy's cakes are always fresh.

I dunno how long the bakery's cake(s) (and that includes Pick 'n Pay) was standing... and sometimes they taste downright gross.

i would say 750 would be a fair price but thinking i would want to pay about 600
but guessing it would prob cost more like 850. Bought my little one a 2 tier bday
cake that cost about 1500 which i thought was crazy but the wife said it was
to expected! sigh! alll that just for some cake!

The huge premium on that cake is basically laziness.

R850 for a cake not even decorated that well? R1500 for a two tier cake? Flipping insane. Girlfriend made a smallish two tier cake for around R500 or so, looked much better than this cake (was for a wedding) and was quite delicious, that was besides the 80 or so cupcakes that went with it.

If you don't have the skill/time to make it then obviously you will have to cough up the money, have a little know-how and you will see how ridiculous that price is to pay.

Box mix is perfect for people who don't keep normal baking ingredients in their home. But to each his own, I was just doing a cost comparison so the guy could see how much of a rip off R750 is.

They charge so much because woman are willing to pay so much in order to keep up with Joneses. Just look at the prices they charge at salons, woman love to compete with their friends and this is the result thereof.

Just think about what you pay for really good cake at a restaurant.

You would probably pay about R30 a slice and get about 10-12 slices out of that cake. Which would mean that a restaurant would sell the entire cake for R300-R360
