How Netflix killed DStv in SA

Nope DSTV killed themselves with greed.
DSTV not dead, just injured.

But I agree, DSTV too expensive for typical ZA consumer.

Also Netfix is a VOD service, which most people prefer.

Another self inflicted wound DSTV made was the interface on the PVR/Explora - too slow, too basic for VOD.

DSTV pulled the classic Nokia move, "Don't worry we are golden, no need to innovate, we are untouchable and then Android came along"

Lol I enjoy Neflix but it will take years for them to kill dstv, for example Netflix caters basically for the middle class and "educated" plus you need to be tech savvy to understand it and also understand how the internet works ect while on the other hand dstv caters even for your typically uneducated garden boy plus it broadcasts in all languages, judging from the work I do I know almost every house in the township has a decoder even the shacks, lets not get over ourselves we all hate dstv yes its crap for us content hungry people but Netflix is far from killing dstv:rolleyes::rolleyes:
Middle class or tech savvy? Pick one..
DStv Premium is not cheap:whistling:

The people who think Netflix is amazing for South Africa are the same people who are constantly shocked by the lists of SA’s most viewed shows.

You guys are out of touch. Population demographics are not mybb demographics.

Indeed
Some of us actually have taste :whistling:

All they need to do is mention price lock. Them sport people love that buzz word.

DStv missed the boat when they didn't get into the fibre game. The synergy that is created when you install fibre and throw in cable.tv.

Showmax could be argued to be their mitigation strategy, but it is sorely lacking. Interesting times.

Bottom line.
Most middle class people have internet connection thus not a factor in pricing.
Why the F would you pay R1000 for repeats and crappy shows when you can pay R99 for new innovative shows?

The only thing DSTV has is sport. Personally I do not watch sport so I give a hoot.

Dstv getting in on some victim card action.
