How Netflix killed DStv in SA

This does not sound dead.
 
Lots of people were fed up with DSTV, long before Netflix came. Most just stayed because there was nothing else or for sports.
People need choice.
 
Yeah well this is SA, incompetence, corruption and death is rife, but that what the yes voters wanted isn't it.

Now all Netflix needs to get is live sports, they won't have enough truck for all the money they'll be making.

Fibre has in any case gone up so much in recent months it would now be more expensive for me than Dstv.

You’re brave. People might come after you to say that it’s a luxury. Things like “R350 feeds some families for weeks yet here you are claiming that money for entertainment”.

Netflix is starting to create local content for SA viewers. Blood and Water features a fair bit of Xhosa and makes fun of Xhosa speakers not understanding Sotho.
 
Dstv is overpriced, why would anyone pay R900 per month just for the priviledge to watch rugby, cricket and outdated shows, endless repearts and adverts. If it was not for sport, Dstv would have been a forgotten outdated product a long time ago. There are IP streaming services available for +-R200 per month with 100s of overseas HD channels including Sky Sports channels in HD. With fast fiber internet available, streaming is becoming the norm. DStv is slowly dying with a outdated dinosaur product and a greedy company running it.

They do have content that the Netflix doesn't, be it through them or Showmax.

Yeah fibre has gone up surprisingly, would've thought it would've dropped. But people are then quick to say but internet you don't only just watch stuff, you can play games and and.
Yet if you're on the 10mb base fibre and you play games and two people try to stream, there is so much degradation

You can also send your kids to "class" online with an internet connection. My 20mb vdsl is sufficient for all that and it's only slightly more expensive than DSTV premium. If I had to choose between the two, and I do, I'd choose internet.

EDIT: 20mbs VDSL is the fastest available here.

MonoChoice's management executives are wholly to blame for the demise of DSTV which is a direct consequence of deciding to perpetuate their monopolistic business model, and blaming the competition is a failure to take responsibility.

Lol I am subscribed to every legally available streaming service I still need DSTV to watch shows not on those services.

I don't know what you mean by outdated you can watch a show screened in the US a week later. Unless a week is outdated in your world.

Every service dictates what content you get that is unavoidable.

Doesn't DSTV also do those express from the US broadcasts which are an hour after US releases. If you want to stay up until 2am or 3am you could watch Game of Thrones and Suits straight after the US.
