I backup to a physical external HDD daily using FreeFileSync but also make use of Google Drive and iCloud. Would love a NAS instead of the external HDD and FreeFileSync but wallet says no.

Depends, work stuff is synced continuously, photos and stuff are copied ad-hoc.

Loosely following the 3-2-1 rule, everything important is backed up both to an external drive I mostly keep at my parents house, and to private "cloud" storage.

The cloud sync is intentionally not automatic in case of e.g. ransomware. At least until I get some kind of delta thing going with duplicity.

Decided against NAS for backup as one of the main "threat models" is just plain burglary and theft of all my electronics.

The only thing I've been backing up is my photos to my Google Photos. Paid for the 2TB package, so using it. All my digital photos from the first digital cameras to the crappy early cellphone pics, right up to what I take now every other day.

Some work stuff I use OneDrive simply because it's got 1TB storage and my NVME is only 500GB.

Not much personal to backup these days, so a few times a year. Used to be weekly I think.

I looked into that but read too many horror stories about people just losing their Google accounts or whatever.

You should at least have another copy on a basic 2 TB USB drive.

Personal files maybe once a week.

Photos I always have at least two copies before I wipe the card(s). Right now I'm backing up all of my photo archive drives to google drive, it's slow going but I'm getting there.

Onedrive, real-time sync for all PC stuff.

Google photos and normal Google backup for phones.

I used to do the same on windows until my backup server crashed😂
Mine is running on an ARM Cortex M3 processor and the actual backup medium is cloud storage.
If it crashes I just reimage its eMMC from a backup stored in multiple places

Yesterday,
All those backups seemed a waste of pay.
Now my database has gone away.
Oh I believe in yesterday.

Suddenly,
There’s not half the files there used to be,
And there’s a deadline
hanging over me.
The system crashed so suddenly.

I pushed something wrong
What it was I could not say.
Now my data’s gone
and I long for yesterday-ay-ay-ay.

Yesterday,
The need for back-ups seemed so far away.
Thought all my data was here to stay,
Now I believe in yesterday.
