How often do you upgrade your PC?

I need to start moving into that cycle, as soon as I get 2GB of RAM and one of the new 9-series cards...then I can rest up until Crysis 2:p
 
Upgrade whats that, I've had this PC since 2005. Its fine running Ubuntu. Need a notebook tho, it seems I can only scrape R 5k together. Wonder what I can get?
 
When i upgrade, i try get the best just befor the crazy price jump, that way i can extend my upgrade time spaces.

Spend good money on quality MB and power supply.
 
Upgrade... Hmm... Not sure I've heard the word before. I'm afraid I don't know what that means.

My PC has 128kB RAM, a 386 CPU and a 2mB hard drive.
 
Every few months I add things till its not viable to add, then i do a Major upgrade and start adding again. Average is 4 years for the Mobo, Ram, CPU & GPU.

Please explain " before the crazy price jump" - I dont get it.
 
I think he means he gets the cheapest highend parts. As the highest highend parts are usually double the price of something that gives 10% less performance.
 
every 12 months or so...also depends on cash flow...did a upgrade recently cost a flippin fortune...bout R11 000...jst looking at that makes me sick...lol
 
My a$$ is itching so bad to do an upgrade now... it has been about 2.5 year since my last overhaul ... The sane part of me says wait for till March then video cards should be more available and hopefully quad core prices would have come down a bit.
 
Got an iMac now, so can't really change much.
When I had a pc, i'd spend around 2k a year on various things, and replace the mb / cpu etc around every 3 years.
Not into gaming anymore, so not worried about it.

glad I'm not the only loony, a buddy of mine upgraded his pc a while ago..
4GB overpriced ram, high end SLI mobo, two [gigabyte] 8600GTs, E6850, new chasis, the works...cost him close to R20K..the last time he upgraded his pc was 8-10 months before that..

I don't think i would eva spend R20k on upgrading....but hey u neva know:D
R11 000 was way to much...but i have 2 admit its been worth it...havn't found a single game that has a problem running on my pc!!
