How SAP avoided losing customers in state capture fallout

SAP is making progress in shaking off a state capture-sized albatross that has hung around the German software firm's neck for nearly a decade.

The company has paid billions of rands in fines for bribing South African government officials to secure various contracts during the years of state capture by the Gupta family.

“Through that process, what was really key to us was keeping our customers at the centre of what was going on,” Pillay said. “We’ve gone through our challenges very publicly.”

Legends. Everybody makes oopsies.

Hahaha! Something like 75% of migrations in the ERP space fail or run over budget. Ain't no way a company goes through that of their own choise if they can avoid it. So it was probably a case of "we promise we won't do this again" and here is a free consultant to analyse what it would cost you to move, just to calm you down.

Can we get a list of all the people from SAP, the government and Gupta family who were involved and what prison sentences they got?

For all the license, training and technical debt that comes with an enterprise ERP, I don't know why more companies don't just say... "OK, what do we want out of this" and roll their own.
Because shareholders..
Because greedy CEO knows less BMW for him come end of FY

AP sort of works, much like horror affairs works. It does the job eventually, and has a lot of quirks or undocumented features, but overall about the only reliable thing is the transaction list is reasonably robust, in most cases.

Cause instead of being tied in to license fees, training and technical debt. You'll then be tied to developer fees, training (keeping in mind you'll have to train newcomers from scratch and you can't just pull someone experienced in SAP from the market) and technical debt. Not to mention that if something goes horribly wrong with SAP you can shift responsibility, and that's all that modern business is about.

The CEO has an idea, but he doesn't want to get fired if it backfires, so he appoints consultants to do a study and guide their answer so that it supports his idea. If it works, it's a feather in his cap for initializing the initiative. If it fails, he blames the consultants and appoints a new firm, or the firm shifts around some staff to "calibrate towards business requirements: or some such.

I know you guys have lives, have to eat, pay your debts, etc.

Question is: how do you sleep at night when you're getting paid by the villains to paint them as heroes?

I'm not judging, I am asking. I also earn a living consulting for gambling houses and financial service institutions, all who are playing their part or enabling the evil cabal.

If you had to choose... (and money wasn't the issue) which would it be:
Oracle ERP cloud,
MS Dynamics 365,
SAP S/4HANA,
Netsuite,
Workday
?
very different solutions for different use cases. Google will tell you the same.
