How the WITS student voting will work

Now people must buy airtime for a poll that's basically meaningless.

Please explain how its meaningless?

Do you mean that you and your criminal "comrades" will just ignore the outcome if it isn't what you want?

BTW, the vote is actually free. You just need some airtime for SMS's to work.

Nothing decided by this poll is legally binding because it's not a referendum and even if it was, nothing in the university statute says anything about a decision by referendum therefore it would be null. This thing is just a waste of money by the university when we can, as the rules state, have an assembly at no additional cost.

Secondly, I know the vote is free but just so you know a balance of R0.00 is a real thing and I've never heard of any provider selling R0.30 airtime.

If the majority vote for something, then its democracy, don't you like democracy?

Sounds like Sammy knows what the outcome will be and is getting the excuses in in advance for more 1930s Germany style tactics.

If the majority votes for something in an opinion poll, it means nothing. And why is Adam Habib being lazy and reducing this to a vote? We might as well have a vice chancellor app because clearly all we need is to vote on things. Why can't we have opinion polls on other decisions made at the institution?

Everybody knows what the outcome will be. That's why Habib went for it in the first place.

He's reducing it to a vote so that you fascists can see that you are in a minority. And you won't accept any decision made by him or anyone else anyway so what option does he/they have?

Good. Now maybe you can get back to studying and do something useful for your country.

You Cab show who the minority if just the same at ah assembly. Only difference is, nobody is excluded. Do you think the student referred to in the picture below has money for airtime it they don't have money for transport?

Who said protesting students don't want to study? This vote makes protesting and wanting to go back to class mutually exclusive. In an assembly both issues can be discussed. We all want to go back to class, write exams and go home but that doesn't mean we can't support the movement.

And how can we trust the results of an evidently faulty system anyway. It's gone seven, sms nowhere to be seen.

Shouting doesn't increase the validity of your point. Something you should learn. Amongst many things.

"students will be required to have at least 30 cents worth of airtime loaded on their cellphones for the SMS system to work."
Oh, the agony... :crylaugh:

Do you really think all 30 000 students would go to a student assembly where it's a given that the same people who have been intimidating them and rioting all week are gonna be there in their numbers doing their best to force the university to do as they want ?

I really hope they bring in the big guns after this and shut down the trouble makers.
Sitting in jail for a few months recovering from some nice rubber bullet welts should send them a strong message.

Except once again, nobody sells 30 cents airtime. You'd have to at the very least buy R5 airtime.

That whole "we will make the universities ungovernable unless you meet our demands NOW" thing makes it exclusive...
