How to Activate airtime on iPhone

Hey guys , I'm having problems activating airtime on my iPhone , after dialing my PIN number and calling, the following pops up : "error performing request , unknown error" what can I do ?

Yes this is my first time , and no the same problem with checking my balance.

I think this is an carrier problem. Have you tried the SIM card on a different phone? Can you make or receive calls/massages

Yes I used it in a blackberry and everything worked well ... I haven't used any cellular data on my new phone since...

Connect your phone to iTunes it will ask you to update your carrier settings and your cellular data will work after you updated
