How to get a gf

Start by working on your self-esteem :D ... I don't think too many girls are going to be, like, "You had me at 'I am pathetic'!", I daresay I speak from experience.

I've gotta post under a different username.

True, I know it is something I have to work on!

Trust me boet. If your self-esteem is a problem then it's going to be a problem till the day you die.

You just have to find a way to work 'around' it. You'll never get 'over' it.

Unless you can get plastic surgery to look like Brad Pitt (who I don't think looks handsome at all).

hi all for all you new people out there I though this thread would help for more info...

I started it a few months ago.

Why do guy's fear girls? it was :D

maybe this can help...

The answer is ... Money.

If I had money I could go out and pick a girl to marry tonight (like in really ... tonight and she is a girl that I would stay married to for the rest of my life and she would in all likelyhood stay married to me also for the rest of her life). I've got lots of girl-friends but no gf, because I don't have the money to give them what they need.

I'd like to say I disagree :/ ... but here I am, probably about ten years older and not quite over my self-esteem problems. But then I haven't tried really hard. And I have had a fair bit of improvement lately. I think there are ways to improve your self-esteem, depending on where the problems stem from. E.g. get regular exercise ... if you're bothered by your size/strength or whatever, go to gym, improve your posture, stand up straight ... if you are overweight lose some weight ... learn to fight, do martial arts, whatever, these things can improve your confidence. Even if you're not totally confident, try fake it, stand up straight, always hold your head high, don't stand back for anyone, accept yourself as OK, learn not to 'apologise for yourself', etc. And don't see your problems as 'pathetic', they aren't, they are normal.

No it's not really karma ... but rather detail. There are a thousand girls that would figuratively give their right arms to marry me, but they just don't know it yet ... because I don't have the money to show them that money isn't what they really need/want.

If you need to show off what your earning potensial is or how many houses or super cars you own then that women is definately not the one I would ever choose... personally that is.

I will personally perfer to stay single my entire life than have someone thats simply faking interest or that will just leave if something bad happened. There just for money. For better or for worse are those words you say on the wedding day, they mustnt forget that. Same obviously apply to men for other reasons but thats not on discussion right now.

Fortunately for me I dont just fall for every girl that walks past me. Guys need to still have standards which many dont. The first girl that says yes is in bed with them that evening.

Oh well. True love and the perfect someone is out there but its only one person. Atleast thats what I believe. That person is your soul mate. Out of all the people on the planet I cant imagine it would be easy to find that one person that is meant for you, but to sound cliche.... let destiny and fate guide the way. you cant physically go looking for that person, you will look like an idiot.

I feel like my posts are pulling this somewhat off topic so just ingore my rambling :) I always post a lot of stuff that ends up making little to no sense.

No, you're dead right. The only problem is that I would (in this day and age, in our South African context - fuel prices going throught the roof and food prices following fuel prices) would go on searching for the next twenty years to look for a soul mate and I probably won't find her. I'm 30 already. My feeling is that I will have to make a compromise sooner or later.

I see what you saying yeah. A personal family member of mine actually only had long term relationships for many years and only got married mid 30s for the first time.. met someone online actually. Married over 3 years now if I am not mistaken.

In other words weird things sometimes happen. Meeting that person in the strangest way. I do understand what you are saying though when it comes to age progressing. Its a brilliant thing though that you have not compromised earlier already. Good to know what you looking for and waiting for it.

oh btw, what weird movie is on M-Net right now.. lol. Just looked over my shoulder and thought wtf.. haha.

Hard candy!!!

Saw a bit the other night. Scared the hell out of me. Not even planning to see whole movie. Switching off TV. Going to bed. Good night.

I agree 100%, if people are that shallow I'm not interested. Fortunately most people I know aren't like that although there's no denying a lot are. You have to have standards otherwise you give them all the power as you're basically saying you'll take what you can get.

SBS - practice make perfect. You need to pay some school fees by talking to girls and getting rejected a few times. Just think of each rejection as one step closer to ... well ... to the Golden Palace of the Himilayas..

I was in the same boat as you some years ago. Long term relationship and when it ended thought I didn't know how to talk to girls. Jack Daniels for courage and a few slaps in the face (only two - and one didn't count 'cos I deserved it) and I got pretty good at talking to girls.

What I realized eventually was that girls ALSO want to be dated and find a partner. Guy's seem to think that girls don't want you to talk to them. This is not the case. They do otherwise they would be sitting at home do nothing and not out meeting boys. Often time the prettier they are the more desperate they are 'cos all guys think 'she's too pretty' and the ones they do chat to her are often only doing so because they are blind drunk enough. (/end sweeping generalization).

I recently read a great pick-up line/strategy on 2oceansvibe. I can't remember it verbatim but it goes something like this. She's a girl you want to talk to. Let's say she's a waitress or bar-lady or just on campus or something. You find an excuse to talk to her. In the case of a bar lady it would go like this:

Her: So what can I get you?
You: um .... a beer but ... excuse me what is your name?
Her: It's Debbie.
You: Oh. I thought so. (then smile and start looking for your cash but wait for the next line.)
Her: Why did you think so? *
You: Oh I heard there was a devastatingly cute (or whatever phrase suits your personality) waitress working here and it must be you. I'm SBS by the way.

* She's forced to ask why you thought she was Debbie. There's no way out of it. It's totally natural and at that point she's asking questions so you're no longer picking her up because how could you know what questions she'd ask? Right? After that I think it's up to you to order one or to more drinks from her and then get her number. remember not to over do it on the tips because this is the route 95% of guys take with bar lady's, 'Dude, I gave her a R40 tip on a R12.50 beer and she didn't even give me her number!"

EDIT - found the original one. http://www.2oceansvibe.com/pickup-line.htm - useful info on pickuping girls.

Another great line is:

You: Excuse me are you wearing Space Pants?
Her: No? (confused look)
You: Because your ass is out of this world.
This earned me my first slap in the face - I'm sure you agree I didn't really deserve it.

This one will also get you a slap in the face:

You: Hi, that dress looks quite becoming on you.
She: Thanks.
You: If I were on you, I'd be 'coming' too.

The chicks that go to Springboks are nothing but sluts. If you want to see girls that are REALLY loose ... go to Huis Divilliers with the international studenst. Those Dutch students are as loose as throwing a vienna down a hallway ... so I've been told (no, really ... I wish it had been otherwise).
