How to improve your wireless experience

I have similiar one with wall mounting. It is AlanDick INP-C0825-10A. It covers all needed freqencies: 824-960, 1710-2200 and 2400-2500. Inside I see very clever design. Just received Type N connectors, going to test it soon. :)

Where did you buy this antenna?

Friend of mine brought it from scrap yard (they want only metal parts - no copper here). :)
It was used in professional installation judging from thick LMR-240 cable and N-type plug. Unfortunately cable was cut short for copper.

Explains why I am having difficulty searching for one. When I get home will try searching on my computer.

Helpful post!
There were many points like zinc roofs and stones that i was unaware of,can cause any troubles in connecting to network!
Keep posting

I live about 5 km from the nearest Cell C tower but the tower is very weak.

After purchasing a 900 Mhz directional antenna this weekend I got onto the roof and started the long process of searching for signal on the Cell C network in a town called Secunda.

I finally got the above signal strength on HSPA+ but the speeds remain very poor.

What am I doing wrong here.

How can you tell that is HSPA+?

It could be congestion. Try repeating the test at different times of the day, on weekends, etc.

The network Type in the summary is stated as HSPA+ when it is edge I get beter speed.

I have tried the whole day yesterday which is a Sunday late afternoon and now this morning. That should have two different usage profiles.

I've been reading the other threads and it seems this is happening all over the country. Good signal bad to no throughput. I just feel that congestion is the lamest excuse ever. It's not like a tower is empty the one day and overloaded the next. Surely the network is supposed to track the contention and some person in control room should report it. Has proactive behavior all but left this country.

I have 200 Gigs worth of prepaid data that I will probably never use. Not to mention the R2000 I forked out for the 3G router...

Hi guys

This must be the greatest post I've read in a long time.

I have an LTE modem, i get much faster speeds on HSDPA than I do on LTE even though latency is lower on LTE. What does that tell me about the tower I'm connecting to?

What is your signal strenght (dBm) value in both cases?

I'm also dealing with the same issues of signal daily as we are a wireless ISP and trees in our area are just insane. We get a lot of people that do not understand the concept of wireless and thus think you don't know what you are doing.

Great post!!
