Hello,

I want to know what components do I need to setup external graphics for my notebook.

I have a Dell XPS L502X and it has an eSATA port on it (I heard you need eSATA for external graphics).

What do I need to get external graphics set up and how?

Please leave as many links as possible.

Thanks so much! :)

External graphics? You mean external graphics card? Didn't know such a thing existed.

Do you want to connect an external Monitor to your laptop? Then you just need the VGA or HDMI port on your laptop and the relevant cables/convertor connectors for your monitor

eSATA is for connecting an external drive.

As mentioned above, your laptop needs so have a video output port such as S-Video/VGA/DVI/HDMI/Displayport etc. to connect an external display device.

ya the vidock have it all together nicely, save you the hassle of buying all of the stuff.

anyway i heard if you have nvidia optimus enabled laptop, you can use the external graphics , with the internal monitor , think guy used gtx 460 externally and it work , otherwise you need to game on a external monitor.

If you have a USB port some other options would be to use a external screen card like these

Other options (you might have a USB port)

HP NL571AA usb to Dvi
Sunix VGA2718 USB3.0 to d-sub ( usb2.0 backward compatible )

Two other products coming soon
Sunix VGA2728 USB3.0 to Dvi ( usb2.0 backward compatible ) (these are coming soon)
Sunix VGA2788 USB3.0 to HDMi ( usb2.0 backward compatible ) (these are coming soon)

That's a newish XPS - why are you asking such a question? What GPU is in there now? GT500?
Is it switchable graphics & you not stuck on using only the onboard?

As that laptop has several possible configurations you could see what is the highest GPU available is & swap out the mobo - but its an expensive way to go.

EDIT: By saying external graphics you are meaning graphics & NOT just monitor/screen yes??

If your only talking about hooking up an external monitor - mini DisplayPort >>> DVI OR mini DisplayPort>>> VGA adapter is probably what you need to look for

I have the XPS L502X its got a GT 525M 1GB DDR3. I want external graphics as in using another graphics card to play my high demanding games. It sucks playing Metro 2033 on this thing, 7 - 12 fps.
