How to sort crime out?

I read Freakonomics the other night...interestingly it is stated the main reason why american crime went down so much is the legalisation of abortions in the 60's.

Maybe abortions should be free for everybody at state hospitals....that way unwanted children are not borne by mothers.

Its a different situation in South Africa...

I was watching a show called "taxi to" on sabc2 a while ago with a bunch of township folks in a taxi being asked what do they think is one of the big problems in the townships in limpopo province. Most of them said the girls in the township dont see a future for themself so they try and get pregnant at the age of 15-18 to get money from government. For most of them getting a baby is a way of getting free money.

Early Superman had him taking on normal criminals and preventing disasters. The iconic plane crash save that you see in the movies stems from those times.

Helping ordinary people. Better than just wasting energy fighting someone else, wouldn't you say?
 
You can increase SAP manpower all you want, however the problem in my opinion is that there is a large market for criminal activities in this country, so the citizens of this country need to look at themselves. it is not like these guys are stealing this stuff for their personal use?

There has to be an investigation into where are all these stolen goods, cars and whatever is being peddled out there, where are they going to, then only will stop the crime situation, at the root!

They should just legalise prostitution..
 
Legalise guns like in USA. Get rid of "human rights" for criminals. Make the "Castle" security zone legal, inclusive of property fence boundary (If fenced and secured) as well as private vehicles.

Sorry but I cant abide by untrained idiots running around with guns - licenses are a good thing but the gov needs to ensure the issuing is administered properly.

So now we have untrained idiots that breaks the country down with their crime and it will get much worse, so what is the difference? ALSO THERE IS MANY UNTRAINED IDIOTS DRIVING OUR ROADS!
I MEANT legal guns, meaning licensed but the criminals must be aware they can encounter a gun anywhere in the country within 5 meters of his exploitation. That would be a major deterrent, they will have to look for softer targets then.

Well then - we should be in agreement that the crux of the matter is the way the guns are being licensed as guns are already legalised as long as you are licensed.

In the USA in most states anyone can get their hands on a gun, without any training whatsoever and that is not what I would want to see here.

It should just be easier to achieve and better controlled BUT the fact that criminals do not see Jail as punishment is the major problem. The government do not do anything thus the only solution is for the public to defend themselves, but that is another issue all together due to the criminal human rights laws.

You go type in "MY HOME IS MY CASTLE" and "Castle" in search and see how many non-relevant things you get. Its not like there is search-just-for-this-exact-phrase option.

Yup that's what's entirely predictably going to happen if you literally pay people to make babies. Unconditional welfare is flawed. (But in African cultures children are also more likely to be viewed as "wealth", not as "costs".)

If it was easy for anyone to get a gun in South Africa, and we had a culture of learning to use them properly to defend ourselves, and it was properly allowed by law to defend yourself, then crime would drop.

Strong agreement. I have no problems with licensing, and I believe that the training requirements are a good idea. The problem is in the administration and implementation. It shouldn't take two years to license a firearm - or be denied a license, for that matter.

I do have a slight problem with the idea of allowing a person only a limited number of guns, but that's another issue.

Take it you're talking about the Castle Doctrine. It's basically a 'no retreat zone' policy which states that if anyone trespasses on your home, place of business or vehicle, you have the right to use deadly force as a deterrent without fear of legal recourse, and without first having to try to run.
