How to use the same Wi Fi on 2 PC's?

Hi guys,
long story short, I am using my Wifi adapter on my PC and want to be able to share the connection with the PC in the other room (via CAT5e Ethernet)

The other PC is connecting to the network but no internet access :( what programs/settings must I do to enable the other PC to use the internet from mine?

If you're running Windows XP Pro, enable internet connection sharing on the primary PC and switch the network adaptor of the second pc to dhcp.
 
o forgot to mention... PC with Wi Fi is Win7. Other is Vista!
 
Should be pretty simple for the Win7 machine.
Go to Network and Sharing Center.
Click "Change adapter settings" on the top left
Right Click on the connection that receives your internet connection (The WiFi connection).
Go to the "Sharing" tab.
Click the tick box to enable ICS (Internet connection sharing). The text next to the tick box should say "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection".
You might want to click on the settings button and tick all the tick boxes in the next screen.

Now it should be set up for that connection. Go to your Vista PC now.
Go into Network connections and right click on your LAN adapter.
Change your IP address settings so that your "Default Gateway" is the same as the IP address of the Win7 PC on the network.

That should work
 
you have to set the DNS server info as well.

to get the dns server address do type: ipconfig /all (in a command prompt of your win7 machine)

I have setup the sharing thing as by stroebs.
But now with regard to changing Vista PC:
What must I change exactly on my Vista PC. Because you cant just change the gateway, you also gotta do the IP and subnet mask.
And for the DNS. What must I put in? just the one or both?

My ipconfig(win7) is as follows:
-IPv4: 10.0.0.13
-Subnet mask: 255.0.0.0
-Def Gateway: 10.0.0.2
-DNS Servers: 10.0.0.2

Is this EXACTLY what I must put for Vista PC?

Your Vista config should be:
-IPV4: 10.0.0.14 (The .14 is just an example, any digit could be there except 13)
-Subnet Mask: 255.0.0.0
-Default Gateway: 10.0.0.13 (Must be the Win7 PC's IP address)
-DNS Server: 10.0.0.13
 
All Windows OS with sharing will force your host IP address to 192.168.0.1 / mask 255.255.255.0 and you won't see your router on a different network address of 10.x.x.x
Which might explain why PC2GO is now offline :)

You are slightly incorrect yet bring up a valid point.
The WiFi connection is his internet and does not go through his LAN adapter, thus the IP address of the WiFi connection will not change.
The IP config of the LAN will, however change.

Your LAN setting on Win7 will (well it should) change to:
IPV4: 192.168.0.1
SUbnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

So you muct change your Vista config to:
IPV4: 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS: 192.168.0.1

And it should work.

gateway is pretty straight forward but why would you assume that the dns address should be the same as the gateway?

you have to set the vista machine to use the same dns server as the host adaptor (which in this case being the wifi connection) is using.

get the dns address from cmd: ipconfig /all
 
It works for me when I leave my USB wifi adapter at school and connect one of my parents laptops up to my PC. They're on WinXP and I'm on Win7.

If it doesn't work, Leave the DNS server blank or do as stated in the above post

But what do you mean my LAN settings? Must I manually input those values or just leave it on automatic? And are these for Wifi or Ethernet on my win7 pc?
 
What have you tried so far?
Leave the XP machine on automatic IP.
LAN = Ethernet = the cable connection between your 2 PCs

what I am wondering is why you were on the 10.x.x.x network address to start with.
 
Drake... Please re-read the posts. PCsToGo has a VISTA and WIN7 machine. No XP.
