She initiated a meeting.
At the time she initiated the meeting she had confirmed her candidacy for leadership.
By the end of it she left without a clear decision.
After another meeting it was not fully clear that she would go.
She repeatedly told the meeting she did not want to go.
She cried. She went.
That's how she was pushed.

Yep she did a good job. But I'm convinced that the DA could have done much better than it did had it not been confused by its identity. For instance, Julius Malema got more votes in a few months than the number of new votes the DA got. That stat says a lot. A party that has an election budget of R400m should be getting 40% of the votes.
 
Good that she stepped down
DA has reached saturation levels in terms of support. In order to grow into a lucrative black voting market changes needed to be made.

And now we have a dynamic young leader ready to take the party forward.

A guaranteed recipe for a party that loses successive elections to remain losers is to blame the electorate.

It cannot hope to gain votes with the de facto slogan: 'Look how awesome we are!' or 'Forget the past!'.

A political party needs to make itself appealing to the electorate.

If the DA does not reform it will be overtaken by EFF or some other left-wing party. It will no longer be the official opposition. The EFF has been more effective in parliament thus far, despite all its faults.

I really do hope that the DA gets its act together and displays political acumen for the sake of the country.

It is too convenient to blame the ANC, but the lack of opposition is a greater problem that allows the ANC to get away with gross incompetence.

Imagine if the ANC's majority was now not 62% but <55%. There is no way that they will let anyone like Zuma be president.

The rot in the country is the DA's fault; pandering to latent white racism by insisting on white leaders like Tony Leon (who was way worse than Zille).

Getting rid of Zille was a good step. If it cannot get a credible black leader that will bring in black voters in droves then the DA should accept that it will no longer be the official opposition.

Mamaine does not pass the credibility test. He is more puppet than leader.

COPE had more votes in its first election than what EFF got. Look where they are today. The DA picked up 1145755 new votes since their last election and the EFF picked up 1169259. That 1169259 the EFF got is less than the 1,311,027 votes COPE got in 2009.

Mmusi has near universal support in the party. Dont worry :D He has earned rank and file support. I know a lot of councilors are volunteering (not everyone can be a delegate) to assist at the next federal congress just to be there for this historic vote :D

So what. On the day she was asked, that was her official and open position. Her private thoughts might have been different because she had not yet come to a clear personal decision, and so the official position is Yes, still a candidate.

All this is perfectly acceptable and in no way dishonest, especially for public figures in official positions.

I might be planning to step down from my portfolio on the board. But until I announce that decision, officially I'm still the boss. :D

Nothing to report here. Moving on.

I am very excited for the DA and the new dispensation even tho I am sad about our own "Iron Lady". That said the biggest reason and claim for the national fools and tools will now be gone but I am sure the usuals like stochos, ngwe's and some other local tools will now be gone but I am also sure they will latch onto new ones. Stochos already started! :sick:

Whoever has that top seat will be under constant attack and criticism. So its not going to anywhere. One of the reasons I think whomever survives in that position deserves a medal. No matter what decisions you make, they will find fault with it.

Timing is right for Helen to step down.

Other parties are going to find it difficult to call Musi a puppet now, and, with Helen gone, who are they are going to use the tired, old "white madam" phrase on.

Bring it I say.

Here in the Western Cape, those hacks, Fransman and Ehrinreich are already finding it difficult with Patricia giving them a good kick!
