Forget about what the VMC s/w says, what does vodacom4me.co.za say the data transfer usage is for October?

Forget what the VMC or vodacom4me.co.za says ; wait for your bill and buy some Vaseline.

There are now 3 certainties in life:

Death
Taxes

and

No refunds from Vodacom.

The dash might under-read, but I've never seen it over-read, so I'd be worried about this.

The dash measures data throughput on your PC itself. So, if it indicated 8 Gb, something is transferring data. Maybe load Netlimiter.

The most likely culprit for this amount of data are typically P2P programs such as Kazae, Shareaza or Limewire as they continuously upload data.

Where do I check usage?
Under BALANCES, DATA BUNDLES, for OCTOBER, I get:
Threshold: 1048576Kb, Used: 1048576Kb, Remaining Bundle: 0Kb

That is exactly 1GB, assuming you meant 1048576kBytes as opposed to 1048576kbits :).

I'm guessing that the option of hard capping your wife's data transfer usage is enabled on vodacom4me.co.za, which means that she cannot ever exceed her 1GB data bundle.

No, the summary page only shows when you've used your cap, but does not show out-of-bundle.

To see this run an itemised bill report from the reports tab.

mohammedm, have you loaded netlimiter to try and see what is using data?

Also, you can call 155 and ask them to put a soft-lock on your data usage.

Netlimiter with firewall disabled show "normal" usage - 13MB for the past 2 days.

Yet, dashboard still shows 8.71GB for October...

Netlimiter will obviously only show new data transfers and won't be able to tell you what got downloaded before it was installed.

@mohammedm, have you checked out-of-bundle usage as detailed by v3g?

Not wanting to sound stupid, but I'm not finding the reports tab? Are we talking about Vodacom4me?

Second tab on acount info screen.

I've also seen that on some accounts you can't see them. Always assumed it's a primary contract holder thing. But if not your case, ask 155 to check why it's not visible.

The router (WRT54G3G) doesn't have SNMP but show current session usage (RX/TX) from the status screen; there must be some capability.

Wonder if it will be possible to extract this info using a script (Perl CGI). Could do 5 minute intervals and then graph with MRTG/Excel.

Anyone played around with this yet?
