It would be better not to have any meter at all than one that gives such a false reading - why not send an SMS at every 100MB of usage - surely Vodacom is not too cheap to do that?

Excellent idea.. maybe V3G can forward it to them, cant image that its gonna hurt their bottom line to send a sms every 100MB, seeing that we paying a price for the data..

Magitime

I found a utility called Magitime, when I first downloaded it, it was free. I find it rather useful for recording the amount of time I spend online and the amount of data I download. (or upload or both)
Sine I don't buy any Data bundles I just specify R2.00 per MB and when I disconnect from the internet it tells me what my session cost. I see there is a new version out that is supposed to track LAN access too. It may do what you are looking for.

One small point if you do install it, there is a hour chime that is automatically activated, I spent months looking for this beep sound on my notebook, eventually found the problem under a tab in the options. You would WANT to turn the hourly chime off. :)

Vodacom4me and data usage

Suddenly I cant see my data usage on Vodacom4me. It says I do not subscribe to any data bundles.

Maybe they are trying to stop us from seeing how much data we are going to lose if ewe don't quickly use it today!

It has also been down the whole day
This is bollocks. It almost always happens at the end of the month when users need to check their remaining balance.

I'm applying for a refund on the data I don't/can't use!

Click here for more information on SMS Bundles.

yip.
082 155 says it's "all" 3g subscribers.
They say the "system" is "allocating" free minutes etc.

In the past I have footed the bill for this problem in 1 of 2 ways.
1) By going ahead and downloading on estimate. (R2 out of bundle!)
or
2) By not using the remaining bundle and loosing out on data.

Got a reference number from 082 155 and will apply a refund, I suggest you do the same if you tired of being ripped off.

Not even sms of the letters "am" through the dashboard works to retrieve info, or the help desks alternative "system" so nobody knows the data remaining.
Except "the system" but they're out to coffee..

It really sux, especially when you are saving up your crumbs of the 1 gig to download a linux iso or something interesting to tinker with.

mmm you are right no way of finding out what or if we have anything left 155 cant tell us either. Makes you wonder how they monitor usage over this time?

interesting, vodacom4me.co.za back online with your data again, but no longer shows your usage for the previous months, and how much extra allocation you didnt use. Think too many people were getting pissed off about no roll over ????????????

very odd that there are no data figures all of a sudden. Now if I had a conspiracy theory...
O well, big brother has rubbed them out with their magic eraser.
Maybe his magic pen will work tomorrow, and write them back in.

Things are really difficult trying to manage your data bundle as is, now we have freak clearings of passed data usuage.

who's keeping score ?
Vodacom: 3 Customers 1 (HSDPA swapout :D )

How to check Data Usage

Ok so now the price has come down for 3g, i have used up me gig ( been a busy few weeks) so i went along to vodacom4me and added a 500meg bundle.

It shows its active under services but is there anywere were i can see how much i have used as its not shown next to my normal contract data usage.

Secondly i wait my bill to make sure they dont charge the extra data at the R2-00 rate.

You must add a ad-hoc bundle else you will be paying the out of bundle rate till next month when your exisiting bundle will be changed to the new 500mb bundle. Under services it is normal to see both bundles until the swop occurs.

no longer a "month end thing"
