Hail travellers!

I've looked for threads like this, but only found one in circa 2009 so let's modernise that with a new one, eh?

Being single myself and trying to get in touch with people for friendship (or more) seems to be a painful exercise.

Taking the digital approach these days means people have the comfort of anonymity backing them and will ignore you point blank, no matter how much effort you put into your opening message (or maybe I'm really that unappealing?:crylaugh:).

I don't mind approaching IRL, but where, how and under what circumstances?

So then, how did all you [un]lucky buggers meet your current Mr/Mrs right? :D

If anything, this can just be a feel-good thread... ;)

What is IRL?

I met my SO at varsity. Dated on and off while both of us were doing a gap year thereafter then hooked up for good after starting with a serious career.

She used to charge for cutting my hair, now I get it for free. (the haircut)

Met mine working at a restaurant when I was still in college. Dated for a few months, went our separate ways when I moved to Gauteng with my family, then our pathes crossed again two years later. That was thirteen years ago this week...

You could so worse than taking a borrowed puppy to the park, beach, or any local hangout.

Watched a girl with two puppy yorkshire terriers work the crowd this afternoon.

Met my wife 17 years ago, when I attended my first class in a UK school.

I allegedly stood her up at a college dance, which I told my mates I could not attend at least a month in advance.

Then a brief glimpse while watching an ODI on TV when they tried to introduce me again... told them to wait until the over was up - she overheard it and buggered off.

Finally met her at my mate's birthday party about a month later and we clicked! That was about 29 years ago...

A female friend wanted to go clubbing with my best friend and I. We picked up her friend and it was love at first sight (only for me).

Saw her taking a walk in the park, now we do it together, now I just need the guts to introduce myself... :D

J/K - Gym, she walked up to me and gave me her skipping rope when she saw me speed-skipping to try. She was impressed and we started chatting. wanted to get her number the next day, she disappeared - work sent her to DRC for a year and a half. Then a colleague at work asked me to assist him with gym as he was a beginner. He has a black tag and at Planet fitness as I'm actually at Virgin Active. Saw her work out there and immediately wen't up to her and said "Hi, can I have your number before you disappear again?"
Almost 5 months ago now so early stages but going well...

He was my best friend's boyfriend's best friend. After a few dates he came home. My dad asked him what his intentions were . He said, "... I want to marry her?"
Poor guy, that was around twenty four years ago and the end of his single life :crylaugh:

We met on Mxit. Yes really.

Somehow stumbled into the same chatroom (not dating related) and just clicked. That was around 11 years ago IIRC.

I met my wife at a pub. We were both regulars at the time but it took me a long while to actually make a move. We've been happily married for over 6 years now.

Got to know her over the phone (due to my niece who also lives in Brakpan who tried to phone me from SO's phone - normally I don't phone back numbers I don't recognise, but in this instance I did, for some reason). Started chatting and stuff, and got closer. 4 months later(after some events in my personal life), I went to meet her. I had just matriculated.

I met her at an Apple store.

She had beautiful Gold skin, and the most awesome curves ever. I said "Do you have a name or can I call you mine?" and she replied "You can call me Siri."

Online dating app for teh gays lol

Not very romantic, but it got the job done :D

I used to work with SO's mother.

One day her mom brought her into my office and said "please can you keep an eye on my daughter she is driving me crazy"

She spoke so much I could not handle it but we swapped numbers after a few days and long story short we fell in love. Known each other for 10 years been together for 6 and married for 2.

Hopefully kids on the way in the next year if I get my way.
