How's Tinder these days?

3 of my wife’s friends found their long-term partners using the app - all happily married now.

Amazing what can happen if you’re not just using it for a pomp.
Same thing happened to a friend of mine just recently. It's not long term yet, but they seem tight. He's not the sort of guy who'd ever do that kind of thing, but one night we convinced him to over a few beers.

For anyone thinking of trying...I found Bumble the better option.

1.) There's more focus on the information about the person rather than just pics.
2.) Easy to filter results (smoking, religious, exercises etc.)
3.) Subscription options are simpler than Tinder.
4.) Mostly normal photo's - Hinge felt like model shots and Tinder filters & random ass photo's.

Tinder felt like a lot of this:

Bumble felt like more of this:

Hinge felt like more of this:

Tinder feels like anything goes, Bumble the same but you can at least state your intentions from the outset (casual, friends, relationship etc.) and Hinge just felt like I'd be spending my salary on expensive restaurants.

Have you went on any dates yet?

Bumble for white vegans?

A bit strange how many people don't really show their faces. Either filtered af or hidden in heavy shadow. I found a lot less of this on Bumble which generally also has more pictures (and info) than Tinder.

This app is a meat grinder. At every turn it's trying to get you to pay for an upgrade. Wonder how much bullshit goes on behind the scenes (paying models for pictures to use as subscription bait etc.). Messed around with Bumble and Hinge for a bit but dunno...not really enjoying it.

Those apps are cash cows, fk me they must milk it. Bumble seems ok, but none of those apps look particularly useful unless you pay.

Is Hinge directed at the more affluent or wannabe affluent?

1.) There's something about someone with a little brak that's always up in their faces and on everything in the house that I don't dig so much. Dunno, we grew up with big dogs that lived outside. I know it's just me being silly but it is what it is. Probably not the deal breaker that something like smoking might be.

2.) Feels like the app baits you with matches but once you've paid (I got a week sub just to see what it was about) the matches die down a bit. Dunno, will see the next few days. Kinda interesting to wonder how the system works on the backend.

Lol, first person they show me on Bumble is a smoking hot 19yr old, ja Bumble whatever, does my profile pic really look that stupid??
I swiped left of course, I don’t need a that level of vacant space in my life, eeeeeeew..

Hinge. I don't enjoy spending time in restaurants & glitzy places. A lot of the profile pics were ball gowns and champagne and fancy restaurants. Obviously that's a bit of a silly thing to gauge it on, but it didn't vibe with me. Maybe one day when I'm grown up and feel like I have my shit together I'll try it again :p

Feels like with Tinder it's probably easier to get a match just because of sheer volume and lack of filters. Whereas Bumble I know what age range I'm interested in, whether they smoke or not and once all those filters kick in the list narrows down a lot more than Tinder.

(If you try Hinge let us know what it's like.)

Dude, I’ll be gunning for the trust fund babes, they pay for everything, they all want a rough man with a charming smile and crooked teeth, bring it on yo!

There’s plenty in Cape Town, just go walk around Bree street, it’s pretty vomit worthy but still not hard on the eyes.

But is Hinge clearly directed at the more well heeled?

Ag I dunno I wasn't on there for too long. I'll check it out again some time. Hinge is probably far less pushy with subscriptions. Just opened it again now and got a like and don't need a sub to see who it was which is nice.
