HP ProLiant MicroServer

All my storage drives are 5900rpm's.....

Only OS drives etc are of the faster variety, and will be replaced with SSD's in the not too distant future.

Mostly.

If you use and older NVidia card, use XBMCLive.

if you use a newer card, not yet supported by the 'Live built, try openelec. (I use it on the GT520, for example).

If you love to fiddle run XBMC on top of Linux.

If you have no imagination and/or are in accounting, run XBMC on Windows.

Tried all the above settled for XBMCFreak

What is everyone's opinion on the 2tb Samsung F4 5900RPM drives that esquire has?

Samsung HDD run cooler in my experience

I think im going for those same drives, unless Esquire Run another 3TB Special.

Good drives, cool fast and quiet.

Many will tell you to avoid Samsung and stick to WD or Seagate. Others will say the opposite. A HDD is a HDD is a HDD.

The cheaper the better. :D

How difficult is it to get a Remote to work with XBMC though? Is there anything I should watch out for when buying a remote?

What do you guys recommend, as this is the only thing i'm still worried about - messing around with xbox scripts and keypress emulators and crap

Sweet thanks. I have always noticed my Samsungs running cooler than Seagates. I have nothing wrong with samsung at all. My 5 year old 160Gb Samsung is still going strong :p.

I bought an Isonic remote .

paid about R70, works out of the box with XBMC, the receiver is a bit big , but i placed it nicely next to my tv....don't think it looks ugly.

only 66 bucks and I think the big receiver will work well for me, If I go ahead with Jannie's brilliant plan to hide it insde the HP itself
(I'm now thinking of putting it behind the steel mesh instead)

I just hope the Harmony works well with it when I purchase it later on.

yep, thats the one, very happy with it!!
why do you want an expensive remote??

if you have an android phone/tablet you can use the xbmc remote application.
