HP MicroServer: R1200 (hp store)
GT 520: R537 (IkonicIT)
2GB RAM (DDR3): R199 (Matrix Warehouse)
Remote: R66 (IkonicIT)

2TB Samsung F4 HDD: R550 each. (Esquire)

I think that is VERY Reasonable actually.

is the 2TB Samsung F4 HDD: R550 each. (Esquire) better then the seagate one for R559?
going to get a 2TB this week sometimes.

Well I think so...my samsung 1TB is still going strong after a long time, and they do run much cooler.
I think the drive noise on a 5400rpm will be less too.

i'm just not really a seagate fan anymore

Just to butt in on that one, I had 3 of the seagates fail within 3 weeks. One I plugged in and reported bad sectors.
And they do run hotter.
Have 1 HP MS with 5x sammys and ones with 5x seagates :)

does the HP have support for 6GBs SATA?

think im going with the sammy's - not because its cheaper but because it's cooler and more reliable.

I also don't think cache would be a problem if you are using it in the HP for Media, as jannie said the bandwidth requirements of even HD video is quite low.

Does anyone in South Africa sell 3TB drives though?

I would actually prefer to start building with those

Price per meg not worth it, unless you loaded and money is just paper that grows on trees. Try Esquire?

Still too early in their lifecycle. Go with 2TB's rather, and it'll be less /GB.

Around R550 for a 2TB, R900 for a 3TB (Esquire Special)..... almost the same at around R300 per TB

although that special is not always on....

So whats the second best price on a 3TB? (not worried about brand, rpm or cache)

Another option for a IR receiver:
http://www.landmarkpc.co.za/store/a...-station-external-receiver-remote-p-7010.html

You can’t really see from the picture, but it plugs straight into the USB port so fits nicely in one of the front ports, a cable is included in case you want to mount it somewhere, it also includes a detachable clip that I could not figure out.

I am struggling to get rid of the tearing in HD content on Ubuntu with a HD5450. Will keep playing around with the drivers and see what I can come up with.

All my other stuff is working like a charm, so really trying to avoid Windows :p

What exactly are the symptoms?

Are you sure the GPU acceleration is working? You can bring up an overlay menu that will show GPU and CPU utilisation.

Secondly, did you play with the movie/monitor sync options in XBMC? It fixed the final small glitches in playback for me?

There is a significant amount of tearing. I can see black lines where this is happening. The video also appears to be stuttering slightly but this could just be a symptom of the the tearing.

How do I see the GPU usage? I do suspect this is the problem. Each core of the CPU is working at around 50%. I checked this from the debugging overlay.

I have played around with the sync settings but no fix yet. But will keep trying this.

I am also going to clear the drivers and try a manual install.

EDIT: Appears to be fixed. I enabled the Tear Free feature in the Catalyst Control Center (believe it or not). Now I just need to get a 1080p to truly test it, have been testing on 720p.

If you were getting 50% CPU usage for 720p then i am not sure its using your GFX card.
