HP ProLiant MicroServer

I have a million and one devices that aren't being used that much.
Shipping might be expensive to JHB.

Well figure out what you want for it incl. shipping to JHB and we can talk. I've converted my old laptop into a media centre and hidden it away - I also like the fact that when the power trips it doesn't screw with the external hard drive, but I am still considering another MS as a gift for a friend. Let's see what he's worth...:D

What? Ubuntu comes with NTFS-3G by default so should easily mount and work with NTFS. How does it not play nice with ntfs? If I plugin my NTFS formatted external, I just plug it in and it works without me having to do anything. Is there another problem perhaps?
Well it seems more of a work around to me, but I should have mentioned the problem was with openelec, files were getting corrupted on my ntfs drive so I had to switch to windows.

Counter to Counter shipping with the Post Office is less than R80. I bought my N40L second hand and it was shipped like that to me in its original box. No problems.

I never had any problems with my OpenElec and NTFS external drives. But then again, I do make a point of safely removing it.
These were internal drives, not sure what actually caused the files to become corrupt though.

Any sound card you would recommend?

I've got Mint running on mine.

The consensus earlier in the thread was this: http://www.takealot.com/computers/gigabyte-gt210-1gb-ddr3-graphics-card,10795297

I ordered one, but chickened out and cancelled when I realised I would have to unplug everything to slide the motherboard out of the chassis.....

Pretty impressive sound card that. :p

Of course the microserver does have onboard sound, it just doesn't have any means of outputting it. If you're going the discrete graphics route a card with HDMI will allow you to feed both audio and video through one connection. I had to fit an additional sound card, as my home theatre receiver does not accommodate HDMI. If your situation's similar you'll want an ASUS Xonar DSX; not DS but DSX, with the 'X' denoting that it's a low profile card.

Sheesh I am a cock. I apologise. My intended use was to pipe sound over HDMI /ducks

Using that on my Proliant. Its pretty nifty and has an earphone boost. I paid R70 at PC Zone. Hopefully Esquire is cheaper.

Neat!

Have you got a price on those pls for account holders? Can PM if you prefer.

PM Esquire and open an account with them.

Their office in Midrand is close. And I believe they deliver as well... At an extra fee of course.

They are sold out, aren't they?

Oh crap. I didn't even check.

Just recommended them because that is where I bought mine along with all the extras. Service and prices were top-notch
