HP ProLiant MicroServer

Thanks Sollie.

One more thing, would I be able to do this with the two LAN ports and everything has Internet (device 1, 2, 3, PC and HP)?

Hi Guys

What do these Microservers go for these days?

I have 2 at home that I'm not using.

I might be interested - depends on price - as I would like a spare.

Please PM me if you decide to sell.

I see that esquire are selling 2gb for R2000 and 4gb for R2700 at the moment.

Yea I'm trying to see whether than is 1 x 4GB or 2 x 2GB

The main thing is drawing the cash ; but I guess for the price, it's worth it.

FirstShop is R4,350.00 inc for the 4GB version. If any real shop came close in price, I'd rather go there to swipe the card - but all seem at R1,200+ more expensive !

Surely you have a debit card? Why risk it with cash?

Is that including or excluding vat? Thinking about getting one of these, chucking unraid on it, with a GPU, and using that when I don't need to use my gaming rig. If it's R2700 including vat, it's a great deal.

Ok so my Plex server (N54L,Win10) can't play HEVC (H.265) encoded files.
I know the CPU is underspecced for those encodings.

Question: Will adding a GPU fix it? (I suspect it might;) If so, can I use an entry level GPU? Recommendations?

I don't think so, but more knowledgable people will have to answer. The problem is most GPU's don't do h.265 decoding yet. And definitely not entry-level ones. You'll need to wait for the next-gen chipsets to come out. (that's what I'm doing - waiting)

Not many GPUs support hardware decoding of HEVC yet. According to Wikipedia: "Geforce GTX 960 and also included in GTX 950 and GTX 750 SE" as far as add-on cards go. Then it also depends on what player you're using.

HEVC is just not well supported yet, I'd wait until it becomes more mainstream before entertaining the idea of moving things over.

EDIT: And to add, Plex (the Server component) cannot utilise GPU decoding, so it wouldn't help you even if you did pick up one of those cards.

Ahhh thanks for that info.
Saved me some $$$ there.

Hopefully plex coders will come to the party soon.

Check the advert - they won't accept anything other than cash. I'm sitting with them now.

He says I can swipe my card for another 2.5% - so I went ahead. Much easier and more convenient. Plus my ebucks nullifies the extra

My emailed copy says Cash, EFT or Debit Cards - you were robbed and they owe you 2.5% back: ESQUIRE.JPG

Ah - you're right ... didn't see the debit cards :(

Oh well - done now.

I only have a cheque card additional and swiping that would kill my eBucks level, so I don't think I had much choice. Anyway - server (4GB) + R610 low profile card and extra costs was R3,970.00

Esquire tells me that some 4GB models are 4GB (single module) and others are 2GB + 2GB. I hope I didn't just pay another R817.00 for a 2GB that I'll remove should I upgrade. I'll check tonight
