Hmmm. I guess option 2 will be the best way, but i will have to wait a while then to get all the required hardware.

That's why the HP MS is such a Godsend. Around R5K for a 5-disk NAS and less than R2K for a kick-ass media player. Can't beat that.

Which one are you using - the silent ones look to be to large, and did you get one with a LP bracket?

The ones with a passive heat sink wont fit (Mostly) the single slot fan cooled ones fit fine. Many people using them.
 
I should have mentioned that the ATI cards have MUCH smaller passive heatsinks compared to the Nvidia ones.

+100 Openelec FTW!
The pre-eden versions of XBMC live should also support the GT520 but I think people will have a better overall experience with openelec if they're just using their Microserver as a media player

I know, that was my reply to you above. The problem is that so far I'm unaware of anybody who's got an ATi card to work in Linux / XBMC Live. I'm looking for an alternative to ATi, and prefer not to buy the aged GT210.
I've manufactured a LP bracket myself, but prefer to get one in the box if I fork out R500 for a GT520, that's why I'm asking.

So, has anybody found a card that fits, has a LP bracket and works in XBMC Live or Linux as well? (And I mean works with 1080p 14+ GB files)?

Will playback Tron (1,5GB file) this weekend to see how well it then performs. Still want to add another 2GB RAM.

Been a while so he's probably forgotten. I don't have a ATI card so can't test openelec on it but maybe someone with one should give it a go
 
Hi guys, really keen on getting one of these, it's taken me about 2 days to skim through the 46 pages.

Do you think card will fit, looks like it's low profile & it actively cooled. The fan doesn't look too big, but I'm not sure. Where would be the best place to get a suitable GT210 if not?

Cape Town, don't mind buying from a store at all. Will try to give Esquire a call tomorrow.

I've asked Take2alot if it comes with a lp bracket, so let's see what comes of that.

I purchased the Sapphire 6450 from Esquire, and it cam with the low profile bracket. No issues with the card.
 
So i am still deciding on what Graphics card to use.

Will the 5450 work fine out of the box when running XBMC - Live?

Cool, on XMBC? I don't mind mucking about a bit to get it running as long as it's doable, my *nix is only passable.
