Hi,

Here are my results, for those of you that do not want to follow a link, short and sweet of it.

Roughly 2000Kbps local and around 900Kbps international.

Please post your results here, I am rather interested to see what people are getting.

I used the Telkom Test for local and the Speakeasy test for international

How much did that benchmark cost in data/rands ;)

Well after several tests to tweak the signal I was about R90 down. :D

Thankfully I do not have to do that again soon.

Hi there

Just arrived at our destination on the Vaal River and was pleasantly surprised to see that there was HSDPA coverage here…and a fairly good connection at it. The current performance:

Telkom Speed Test: 943 Kbps

Gamco Speed Test: 1.24 Mbps

Stanford Speed Test: 615 Kbps

Regards,

RPM

Nice one, I am rather impressed with Vodacom this time around. The speeds are really decent.

HSDPA no good - back to my "old" 3G card

Hi
After forking out a few thousand to purchase the new card I am returning it to the dealer. My current speed stats are:
Telkom: 63 kilobits/second
GamCo: 59.40kbps
Sentech: 57.26 Kbps
The above translates to 7-8KBps.
Its quite a far cry from the 400-1200Kbps promised. (Not even going to bother with the international tests.)

I am based in Oranjezicht, Cape Town. I am using VMC 6.03.0002 and I get about 3 signal bars on the status bar. The connection gets made at 1.8Mbps but I haven't seen above 8KBps yet on this card.

My normal speeds here on the Novatel Card are in the region of 45-46KBps. If the wind blows then I get disconnected every 5 mins, although to be fair I had that problem with the original card too.

Dux, have to ask; you're not on a GRPS-only profile?

If you look at your card do you get blue or red flashing lights and are they double or triple flashes?

I've just confirmed with another user in Oranjezicht that they are getting HSDPA speeds.

I'm also on the Cape Town systems, only on 1 bar of 3G signal and just got this on the Telkom test.

Download time: 3.606 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 1131.4 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed 138.7 (kiloBytes/second)

We need to find out what's wrong on your setup.

slow HSDPA

Wow that was a quick reply - thanks.
My Profile is set to 3G - used to have a problem with too much switching in the beginning but for the last year or so I have pretty much always had the same profile.

My card flashes triple blue on the rhs led. Connection speed reckons it is 1.8Mps so that should rule out GPRS anyway.

This is with the old card:
Download time: 11.827 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 345 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 42.3 (kiloBytes/second)
- only change was setting the profile to use the merlin u630.

What is the serial number (on back of card) and firmware (Tools->diagnostics) version of your card?

(Blue) Triple flash means HSDPA.

Note that even on GPRS the connection speed is reported as 1.8Mb/s.

Hi V3G
My serial number is NZ2C5C71SA and the firmware is 3.15.0HD (Timestamped 06 feb 06, 12:53:15).

This looks all fine.

What is the version of the dash? I believe there are updated drivers in the lastest version (6.02.0002) that's on vodacom.co.za.

The version I have is 6.03.0002) ;) ... found on vodacom.co.za ;)
UPDATE your software v3g ;)
