HSDPA Speed Tests/Review

Has anybody tested upload speeds higher than 64 Kbps? In all the tests I have performed I get around 55 kbps.

V3G: Is the max 128 kbps or 64 kbps?

ok not to frigggggeeeeennnn happy here..
been cruising along AT LEKKER SPEEDS for like over a year (infact i was probably one of the first okes on board)
been an awesome hassle free experience

so i reckon

today i go get me a nice hsdpskedjskl or whatever they called cards.
phone vodashop cresta... yes we have
was there within minutes.... no sir sorry we dont have any will have to order
strip my moer.. ok we give you one we promised for another customer... (feel sorry for the next dude but anyways)
read on here that the card is 2 thousand 6oo and something
no sir its 3 grand ...... ???? (2999)
???

ok so i thinks maybe i didnt pay attention so i pay it. was i ripped off???

then get back to office... install blah blah transfer sim from good old faithful nova card to the supa doopa fast option card.
connects no problem.

BAD DAMN ITS SLOWER THAN MY OLD ONE.
quick test at 6pm on telkom (just a quick test) says 180kb... old card was regulary sitting at close to 380 most of the time.

whats going on here??? 3 grand later im half the speed i was before???

:) oh yeah?

help!!! im only little bit literate :)

where can i check this?

also create a 3g only profile and a gprs only profile. you can do that via tools, mobile profiles , new , and on the 1st drop down box select and choose 3G only...

If you have created a 3g preffered your card may be usin gprs instead of that super duppa burning rubba thingy majigy....

And on the card where it say 2 thousand 600 and what u macallit. thats in MHZ which makes it 2.5/6 GHZ =3rd generation=3g....

hic...

ok its def faster than gprs.. latest speed test is 260kb

(the card has written on it hsdpa, and the light is flashing blue)

ive been on 3g for over a year. my signal strenght is 4 bars... ive been cruising for months.

man i feel like going back to my old 3g card. it was faster.

Same here, not seeing much difference with HSDPA, and not sure if the current network hiccup has anything to do with it or not?

But I downloaded a 74MB file about 2 hours ago and it took 56 minutes, the throughput is terrible of late - but then it could have also dropped the downlink a couple of times during the download, and then re-established the connection so that could explain the long download time?

Tested signals here at my place today...

Vodacom HSDPA:
Down 354kbps
Up 54kpbs

MTN HSDPA:
Down 185kbps
Up 114kbps

So, now the question: Which do I choose? I do a lot of uploading, but also want good downloading! Catch 22! :(

You lucky, these are my test results from a Vodacom 3G HSDPA connection

Download time: 14.953 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 272.9 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 33.4 (kiloBytes/second)

Not great - it's worse than normal 3G?

The gremlins are still running through the airwaves...

But ic, that defeats the point! I want a good connection right here at my desk, where I have the perfect working environment! I don't want to shift to wherever the signal is best when I access the internet!

Ok, so does Vodacom/MTN have external antennas? Which I can put on the roof?

Edit: Actually, a better idea: I'll offer a piece of my property to the company who will build a tower here! :p

Bearing in mind that speeds are highly dependent on signal quality & strength: Are you mostly using your 3G|HSDPA in one or more fixed locations, or are you mostly on the move between cells?
Fixed location 2-3 bars of signal according to the smashboard

If you're mostly using your 3G|HSDPA in one or more fixed locations, how much effort are you putting into optimising signal?
I am using the supplied external aerial for the data card, and I have the external aerial on my roof from Poynting to boost the 3G signal indoors.

if you read my earlier post... ive just upgraded today to hsdpa.. and you cant now tell me that its worse than my well performing 3g nova card? im one bar short of full signal... (in my office, 20 metres from the tower) always run never less than 350k... now im down to 140????

nope you cant use the tune your wireless signal thing here...
