Honest opinion, having played with the iPhone 4, the screen is wicked, camera's good, but personal preference for me, for software, I'd go for Android.

Yeah, I can't wait! I'm upgrading from Nokia N81, so it's going to be a HUGE leap for me.
 
had the phone for a week and I must say it's been awesome, a few moment of doubt with lag but discovered app killer and so all good. The ONLY issue is the battery life, if I change ROMS etc.. will this help at all? My battery just just makes it through the day.. with minimal app usage and browsing..

Android is VERY good.
But I think you are really refering to the UI..
As there are things that Symbian does much better than Android.
Sense > 'stock android' > Symbian

As far as Andoid handsets go... the DesireHD is the megaphone. The Godzilla of Androids (well, for the next 3 months, anyway).

You don't need them if you in the habit of closing applications properly by using the exit/quit options instead of just hitting the home button every time you want to do something else. Its like the PC equivalent of hitting minimize every time you do something else.

See that is kind of the blessing and curse about Android, it doesn't "Fake it". It actually will run the apps in the background.
 
A matter of interest... Has anyone bought the actual PHONE through Expansys? How do they compare to the official imports?

Love the phone but the battery life is a big negative. With moderate use, lucky to be still alive at 5pm.
 
Well, I have my phone now for over a month, the first few days the battery was out by the time I went to bed. Now I get 2 to 2 and a half days use out of it. Don't know what I did, just lucky I guess....still using stock OS. I don't really play with it during the day, only at evening before bed me and my daughter play a few kiddie games and then I play Pocket legends for 30 to 50 minutes. (My daughter is 5, she is kicking my @ss in Angry Birds)

The battery needs a while before it starts working properly. Think I only saw a big difference after two months, but maybe it was the fact that I'm running all my mail accounts through GMail.

We'll soon get the Gingerbread (Android 2.3) update, should be able to squeeze a tiny bit more battery juice out of your Desire HD. ;)

Huh? You serious? Lag on a Desire HD? Might be a rogue app.

For some reason my phone started misbehaving after I installed the Engadget app, I uninstalled it, rebooted the phone and installed it again. Problem fixed.

Not nowadays.
Lithium-ion batteries don't need the charge-discharge-charge treatment (as did the Lithium-Cadnium batteries).

The Desire HD is known for being slightly heavy on the battery. Perhaps there could be something wrong?
Maybe an app is on in the background, eating the battery?

Or maybe it's when you stop playing with the phone 24/7 that it feels like it has much more battery juice. :p

XDA Developers has lots of comments and stories about it, but I did actually see a major improvement after two months. My phone's battery now lasts more than a day.

Ja, maybe a placebo effect. Or maybe, in the beginning your so obsessed about battery life (having read so many complaints) that you/I charged my DHD every night. Now I'm to lazy to really worry about checking. So I only plug it in when it starts to complain about battery. So the battery could've last longer in the beginning too???HUH???
 
I agree that initial use may be higher on the phone but comparing the battery life to my previous fone, bberry 8900, the DHD is dramatically less.. the lag is not longer experienced and I was most obvious whilst playing 'Angry Birds' with several apps open... App Killer sorted all that. I really hope the battery life improves with future updates as I believe if you are going to use the phone as it is meant to, ie, calls, browsing, downloads etc..then you should be getting more .. I've been at work for 15 minutes and my batter is already at 95%..having only take 2 calls on my way to work and leaving the house on 100% full.

How do I found out what the rogue app is?
 
Guys, if you experience lag try this quick fix. Worked for me and a buddy.

Go to settings, application, development and make sure that USB debuggging is checked.

Also, with regard to battery life...when I got this phone my girlfriend and I had broken up so I didn't use it as much. I surfed a little, email, played some ggames etc and the battery would last me easily until i went to bed. When.we got back together, we were on whatsapp all the time and surprise surprise...I could only make it to 7pm.

Its really dependent on usage. Don't forget that our phone has a HUGE screen. Its a positive that results in a negative.
