HTC DESIRE HD

So where does one get a nice cover for this phone? I've been to all the cellular shops in Clearwater mall today and no one stocks HTC covers

I also haven't been able to find anyone in in PTA yet who stocks, or at least has stock in for it either. Found a CAPDASE universal pouch XXL for it at NewWorld Menlyn, but it fits awkwardly. Anyone know where to find the gel wrap-around type?

In Vodaworld the HTC shop was selling a plastic cover but not gel.
For me the phone was too big to have a plastic cover.

If you go through this thread there other posts about guys buying covers/kits over the internet and ebay.

Perhaps Leaf in Fourways might have. Will go pas there next and see. Otherwise ebay seems to be the next best option

thanks for the replies, jeesh, fourways.. midrand is closer 4 me by far

@ skimread, any description on plastic cover? is it the two parts (front and back) that snap onto each other (phone-sandwich) or just the normal type like you get for iphones as well, (bit of stretching gets the phone in)
If I knew where, I'd love one of these types,
bleather-case-cover.jpg
, saw a guy in court the other day with one like it for his iPhone...
even so, currently i'm just looking for something thats like this

Hmmm... will check ebay etc. Just dunno how I'll pay, I do not have c/cards >:(

Yes it is the one that snaps onto each other. Think is was R150 and for two pieces of hard plastic that is likely to break it decided not to take it.
I did found a generic leather case that the phone fitted in perfectly in but it just made the phone look too big.

hehe, i get what you mean. I have a screen protector for nicks etc, but the back is what's bugging me, it'll eventually scratch up and look bad, I've seen the way the iphone 3gs scratched without a case, would want to avoid that

Update on 2.3.3:

Battery life has almost halved. There are other reports of this from the web: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=1c04e08dfa826f33&hl=en

Seems there's an issue with the phone sleeping and not ending services correctly. I have not experienced the drop in connection/calls though.

Suggestions are to turn off WiFi and Mobile Internet when not in use (overnight). When left on, my phone went from ~65% battery to <10% overnight :( When off, it's back to normal.

So, there is apparently a new update due: 2.3.4 that fixes these issues. Hope it comes soon.

Other suggestions are to re-calibrate/train the battery again, or fully charge from flat with phone off. Will need try these too.

Did you custom rom people experience any similar when switching to a new rom/version?

Well, I went ahead and got a Desire HD after a couple months deliberating. I knew it was overkill for my limited intelligence, but damn it looks/feels/works brilliant so why the hell not right?

Okay, so I'm trying to download apps via my PC internet rather than through my vodacom cell contract. I don't have wifi at home, and have the Cell C 5GB package via usb.

So how do I connect my phone via usb to the PC to use my Cell C for downloading? I've fiddled a bit and connected via Internet Pass-through on the phone, but I'm very hesitant to just go wild just yet - Will this work? Any better methods?

Also, what is the best data usage indicator app I can download? That one I'll download regardless of how - I'm a bit intimidated by this thing tbh, and don't want to wake up at the end of the month with a ridiculous bill, just because I didn't ask hehehe.

And just in case it matters when it comes to answered, the phone is straight out the box, will not be rooted etc.

Well, I went ahead and got a Desire HD after a couple months....

Gratz.

Best advice I can give for installing apps from the market now is to place the Cell C sim into the phone to install apps. It is licensed to your email not number. Or to get a cheap WiFi router. I got a R200 Asus one for this, and set up internet sharing on the pc.

For usage monitor you can check out PhoneUSAGE, I use the with the alarm settings active.

Edit: you can also look at 3G Watchdog or Netcounter I just prefer PhoneUsage as it does data + calls and SMS's

Installing custom ROMS on my Desire HD...how?

Hi

I am a noob when it comes to installing custom ROMS, etc., and I have some questions. But before I ask, here's my phone's details (I have the stock Desire HD, on a Vodacom contract):

Android version = 2.2 (Froyo)
Baseband version = 12.28b.60.140.......................
Kernel version = 2.6.32.21-gf3f553d
Build number = 1.38.421.1. CL278606 release-keys
Software number = 1.38.421.1
Browser version = WebKit 3.1

I would like to install either the latest LeeDroid HD ROM or the Kingdom 0.2 ROM with Sense 3.0 . Onto the questions:

1) Can someone please please please (yes, that's 3x) post a step-by-step guide on how they installed one (or both) of these ROM's? This will surely benefit me and others who want to do this.

2) Can I install multiple ROMs on my Desire HD and toggle between them?

3) I've read that one would need to wipe their Desire HD completely, before installing a ROM. What would happen to the apps that I've downloaded from the Android market that could not be moved onto the phone's SD card?

Thanks in advance.

We are all noobs :)

I know its a CyanogenMod rom site, but I find the step by step guides for all the phones better to follow you can look at http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Desire_HD:_Rooting and when it comes to flashing nothing beats ROM Manager

2) Can I install multiple ROMs on my Desire HD and toggle between them?

Not really but you can install some roms over others. see no 3

3) I've read that one would need to wipe their Desire HD completely, before installing a ROM. What would happen to the apps that I've downloaded from the Android market that could not be moved onto the phone's SD card?

This totally depends on the rom used, also the options use on rom manager. You can select wipe and flash or a simple flash overright. Some roms just replace the os/boot or app section where other replace the entire system. CM7 for example you can just flash without wipeing and it will leave all your apps as is. But I will never chance it unless you dont care about losing things, otherwise BACK UP!!! and restore. There is plenty of apps that can do this for you, from Titanium Backup to ASTRO File Manager. Astro just do apps where Titanium have other options as well.

so after using my Desire for about a 8months, i am getting the Desire HD. looking forward to it. came very close to trying out the iPhone 4, gave a it a miss for now though.

When you plug in the USB cable you select the last option: "Internet pass-through",
