Finally got mine yesterday afternoon. One word ... freaking awesome (ok, that's 2 words - sorry)
My wife wanted the iPhone, which I obliged by getting it for her (gotta keep the lil' lady happy, you know). She received hers and I placed my order for my Desire HD on the same day. In the week that she's had it, I've had a good look and I must be honest, I was starting to worry about my choice. The iPhone is a really polished piece of kit, and I couldn't see how anything would top it.
That was, of course, until my DHD arrived. Man, am I happy I didn't buckle and go for the iPhone (one was available for me, and I could have had it the same day as my wife's). It's quite a bit easier to use that the iPhone. It's fast, simple, very responsive. Plug the thing in with the USB cable, connect the the SD card, install the HTC Sync software (supplied on the phone's SD card), and I'm good - no fuss. Copy music to the phone, some movies ... no prob.
Given the hassles I had getting my wife's iPhone working with iTunes and synching (one-way) of libraries to get music etc on it, I thought the ease of interaction between the DHD was laughably simple, to the point that I thought "No, it can't be that easy"
I logged on with my Google account to get my gMail, and every google module I've ever used is now also configured with the same settings on my phone. My gTalk contacts are there, my Google maps bookmarks and maps are there, my rss feeds are there - quite simply mindblowing.
Setup was simple as pointed out by kingrob, although it wouldn't communicate nicely with my old iMate Jamin (I guess there are still SOME limits). Only complaint I have is the battery cover which had me swearing a little bit.
Battery is going to be an issue, not a big one, but an issue nevertheless. Leave it alone and use it occasionally for one or 2 things, and it seems to hold out nicely. Start fiddling heavily, and you can actually see the battery indicator drop. To be honest though, if the only thing I have to worry about is the battery needing to be charged once a day, them I'm more than happy.
This is my first Android phone, and while a lot of the things I've been raving about may seem like old hat to most of you, I'm just so impressed that I've finally found the phone that I've been wanting for years ... something with a large screen (check) that can keep my in touch wherever I go (check) and can provide seemless interfacing with my PC (check).
Very happy little panda here!
