HTC DESIRE HD

Wow - @ least u really get 2 use ur phone! I don't have wifi @ Home. And at work we do have wifi, but u need to access it through a username / password - so can't use it there. So currently using only my data bundle on the phone! That part sucks! Wish we had cheaper data bundles in SA!

And I've owned a lot of phones too :) I'm a sucker for gadgets! A female techno geek! My friends laugh @ me for wanting to buy new gadgets rather thn new shoes n bags!

I mean, who needs new shoes! And the only new bag I want is for my HD :)

This sentence confirmed my worst fears....not interested in new shoes...you are definitely a true geek! :)

Well, I was on a iPhone package with Vodacom before, but the 250MB wasn't enough anymore. So now I'm buying once-off bundles & hoping that I can stretch it for two months.....we'll have to see if it works.

Something I've picked up, is that a lot of apps are by default enabled to sync constantly. Like the Stock app, you actually need to go and disable the auto-updating feature. And there's a few more.

This is my first month with the phone, so will have to monitor data usage and get the "sweet spot". But it is very difficult to restrain yourself with this awesome phone.

*Just press the menu key when you've got satnav open, whip out your credit card and get it over and done with.[/QUOTE]

List of things I need to know before I go insane (Part 1): :wtf:

1. When flicking between apps how do you set it to close previous apps? (i.e. stop them from running/loaded in memory if not needed)

2. In (Google)Maps, how do you change the default street name of "Stared Places" to Peoples names ! e.g I want to create bookmarks of where my my clients are by their names!

3. When I open Navigation i get "checking navigation avail." and then the phone goes on standby. (does it check when it goes on standby or do I start all over again?)

4. Ok, so I got 3G Watchdog but is there a "WiFi Watchgog" ?

1. You don't. Android handles closing apps and killing processes in the background by itself. Just let it do its thing.

hmmmm welcome to the dark side ;)

I'm an IT guy. I like to be in control

You'll have to learn to let go a bit. Android takes more of an "unused memory is wasted memory" approach. By going around killing apps willy-nilly you are setting yourself up for a world of terrible battery usage and instability.

:)

Yeah, just let Android do its thing. But with 768MB RAM, should you really be concerned? I know I was like that with my iPhone 3G, but it only had 256MB RAM. This baby is in a different class.

R277, more or less.

Download the xe.com currency converter app and type in $39.99 - I'm too lazy to do it now. :)

Thanks Kingrob ... just wanted to know price and its a lifetime thing so its pretty much worth it ... just
hope they start updating it

Definitely worth it! Now you have full turn-by-turn navigation, you don't incur data costs when using it & you don't have to download a 500MB map file from some app store. The points of interest is a bit screwed, but I'm sure it will be updated at a later stage.

*If you want to see how insanely fast this phone is, do a preview of your trip. ;)

Here are some cool apps that I came across

Mobility Weather - just for the wow factor.
3G watchdog - to watch your data usage
APNDroid - manages your APN
Barcode scanner - uses the camera to scan QR Codes containing URLs, contact info etc
Dolphin Browser HD - browser
Google sky map - very cool app for when you can see the night sky clearly
Instant Heart Rate - uses the camera to check your heart rate
PhotoDroid - for all the photographers out there ... very nice golden hour app + moonrise and moon set and moon phases
Task Manager - for killing control
Timeriffic - setup different profiles at kick in at different times

Angry Birds - need I say more
Android lightsaber - because I can't afford a real one
Abduction - cute time killer
Blow up lite - don't kill the panda
atilt 3D - tilting game ... :)
Chess - no explanation needed

Whether the option is there or not depends on whether the app's developer has incorporated the functionality. Biiiiiiiiig apps like Angry Birds will more often than not install most of their data to the SD card without you needing to do anything.
