HTC DESIRE HD

just ordered my screenprotectors, carcharger & pouch from brando.com. should be here by the time my upgrade comes through on 10 Nov. Now MTN must just play along and have my phone ready. I have to say, they really are charging ridiculously little for the HTC DHD.

why is the standard Desire still more expensive from MTN

Does MTN have the ability to capture a pre-order on their system (I assume it's for an upgrade)?? What branch did you go to?

Yeah, I'm doing an upgrade. I just went to a local MTN shop (MTN Malmesbury) and asked them to order me the HTC Desire HD. They said they've place an order for the phone (I watched him do it, funky dealer app he was using), so hopefully when the main center gets stock, I'll get my Desire HD.

GSM arena and Engadget are 2 of the most trustworthy reviewers on on the net. Engadget has just conducted thier review of the DHD http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/27/htc-desire-hd-review/

Engadget's review is a bit negative & the points not really valid.

They had three negatives about the phone :

1. The edges at the side....now I've never swiped my iPhone from side to side, just a quick flick in the middle, so the dude has obviously not used a touch screen display before. And the edges are there to put the phone down on its face if you want to silence it in a meeting - very cool.

2. Battery life.....we all know big screen touch phones suck power like there's no tomorrow, fortunately I've got some first hand experience with my iPhone 3G, so it's nothing new. I've made peace with that. And reading some of the comments from actual owners of Desire HDs, you CAN go for more than a day with light use. If you're a heavy user, just take your charger with you, or put in on the dock (optional).

3. The camera lens that's touching the surface when you put it down....also, reading some of the comments....not true. There is actually a metal strip that protects the camera lens, as some of the Desire HD owners pointed out.

I still think it's the best Android phone money can buy right now & definitely getting one.

Engadget are really harsh. i agree with what you say, you dont have to scroll your finger all the way to the end of the device (i dont). one thing you can take away from this review is that they only complain about the smallest issues, which implies that the phone is itself really brilliant and complete.

Engadget don't make any meaningful comments on the audio quality. Did they really judge the SRS and Dolby sound using the internal speaker or did I read that wrong?
They really give the small issues more than their fair share of time. Why does the guy even swipe his finger that far? On my Galaxy S I feel no need to swipe my finger right off the screen.

Still, the battery life sounds pathetic. Surely that issue and the sound quality deserved more time than the fact that his fingers made a noise when he unnecessarily swiped the bezel next to the screen...
A big phone like that is going to be used for media so the sound quality (with earphones, not just the built in speaker) is very important.

I liked that phone until this review. At least now I don't need to envy it.

Well for me it's between the Desire and the Desire HD .... with the SLCD and new processor ... and more space :) - I'm leaning towards the Desire HD :)
Going to be placing my order very soon from MTN ... :)

not too sure that it's slcd any more. rumour has it that it might have a normal tft lcd

This is something which has been bothering me. ive seen countless posts on the internet saying that the Desire HD and the HD7 have the exact same panel. and that the HD7 is indeed SLCD. but ive never seen a post about a person saying that the DHD has a SLCD panel. not even engadget explicitly says what screen it is...

anyone picking one of these bad boys up today? keep us posted!

Has anyone(Those who applied with mtn online) received a call from them? i really hope it will be released today. And does anyone know if its possible to send a phone back for you cash back or another phone here. Ive read on countless forums in the uk and ouher places and it seems their network providers allow them a period to return the phone, is that applicable here? thanks for any help

Went to Vodacom lunch time and it seems that I'm not speaking French anymore! The lady said she'll place an order for one. I asked if she knew it was the Desire HD and not just the Desire, and she said yes. She said she had seen one and that she could place an order.

That's great....but what will Vodacom charge for it?
