HTC DESIRE HD

not a bad price for the cradle eh? might just pick one of those up along with a car kit.

Why no front webcam for Skype/Video Calls?
Guys, which is better in direct sunlight/gaming/playback AMOLED (D) or S-LCD (DHD)?

good question. here is a simple comparison. the S-LCD and Super AMOLED are neck and neck, i think S-LCD just wins by a small margin.

guys I still haven't gotten a confirmation weather the DHD is S-LCD or just LCD

can anyone confirm? because GSMarena says its S-LCD but all other reviewers dont even specify what screen technology is behind the DHD

edit: indoors tho the AMOLED / Super AMOLED shines far beyond LCD

My old Nokia Navigator & SE P990i had front facing cameras & I can honestly say.... I have never ever used it. My iPhone 3G doesn't have one & I've never missed it there either. :p

With regards to direct sunlight, I've read in other forums that the DHD display is very readable in direct sunlight.....but, if they are all telling lies, worst scenario is that you'll have to cup the display with your hand. :)

maybe not 100% on topic, but I'll try to steer it...

So this eXpansys company the links point to for prices - anyone bought from it? Had any good / bad experiences?

Just want to know if I order any bits for my DHD that I'll get them :)

I would also like to know about that, as well as why the same phone costs over R2000 more from the same company selling it in New Zealand:
http://www.expansys.co.nz/htc-desire-hd+free-usb-cradle-204786/

947.76 New Zealand dollars = 5 101.17958 South African rands.

And even comes with a USB cradle free!

We're Saffers, we always get shafted.

Imagine the day when MTN & Vodacom actually give us a good deal.... Nah, will never happen.

Well .. good news about the /init process problem

A fix has been found to stop the /Init process lagging the phone.
On your phone go to..
Menu/settings/applications/development/now turn on Usb debugging..
This seems to keep the / init process at 0% CPU usage, it also works when the /INIT problem starts, turning USB debugging on will make the /INIT process drop back to 0%, very nice to see.
Ive contacted the Dev to find out if he can tell us why this method has fixed the problem.
Still need an update from Htc but at least we can use our phones again..
There doesn't seem to be any negative effects from turning this option on, the only thing to note is turning it off to connect to your pc could bring the /init process back and lag your phone. You can download Android Manager from the market for free which will allow you to transfer data from your pc using Wi-Fi, using this app you can keep the USB Debugging on.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT 2 - It looks like you can connect to the pc via USB cable with the debugging turned on without problems, the only difference is that it will try and install additional drivers...because of the debugging mode..
Im using windows 7 and the ABD driver wont install...this however does not effect transferring via the USB cable...
We should also watch the battery as this may actually increase battery life...

I just contacted Leaf and they assured me the phone will be South Africa on the 20th and will be at the service providers by no later than the 25 November 2010 for sale and contracts  well what can we do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any idea on a cash price for the phone from the carriers ?

... I'm aware of the +- R 7 000 from Expandsys
