.... still awaiting my DHD from the UK, seems I was correct and the carriers (ie contract users) get their phones first and the online-shops (sim-free phone) will be waiting longer for stock to arrive.

*He does mention that the Desire HD's display is S-LCD, so let's hope the ones we're getting will be S-LCD .... and he rates it higher than a Super AMOLED display. ;)

The problem here is that despite the fact that he says it's S-LCD compared to the desire Z it's looks very washed out....

Yes, in the one YouTube video the HD's display did look washed out against the Z. It is a bit of a mystery. Would seem that some Desire HD phones actually did ship with S-LCD, but because of a shortage, they compensated with regular LCD.

Should actually get a statement from HTC about this.

Yeah. From the reviewers point of view he liked the fact that the colours were more natural and that the ''dimming'' function of the screen was superior to amoleds according to him. I don't know hey. The only thing that puts me off of the DHD is the battery life. I need something with a little more ooomph. I went around yesterday to see if any of the stores had demo versions of the phones so I could play around with them. There was only one mtn store which had an iphone that you could play with. I really wish they would catch on already so we can make more informed choices about the phones that we buy.

Yes, it is something that is lacking very badly in South Africa. Still remember when the SE P800i got released, could play with one in any Vodafone shop in London. So I bought one. :)

Thats the thing. Cell C now has quite a few phones on demo BUT they are phones that IMHO don't really need to be demo'd. They said they would be getting a few of them in the near future but they need Galaxy S, DHD, N8 and Iphones on demo as well. Looking at reviews and handling plastic
dummy models is a retarded way of picking a new phone and yet we do it all the time.
 
so lets hope its the week we are all waiting for. On the weekend the vodacom and MTN shops where I passed by didnt have a clue, but lets hope something will happen in the next days. What about the one guy who received a call from vodacom that he will get his phone, any news there?

That was Liebies, but they sent him a normal Desire. False alarm.
 
I spoke to Nashua Mobile ... They don't have the phone and they don't have an eta on when it will be arriving.
The lady said that they will probably only have the phone out next year ...

That kinda ticked me off a bit ...
 
I have a family member at Autopage who deals with all the manufacturers. Their contacts at MTN said the following last week;

I can upgrade from today and have placed my order on MTN Direct. Have the Hero currently and got my kids the Wildfire each.

I'm still positive that MTN might release it this week, Vodacom maybe next week. They told me it will be December.
 
Im going to give it till the middle of the week and then I will start harassing Vodacom again. I will probably be driving past Vodaworld on a daily basis though .
 
Don't know what to say

Contacted Lab88 who told me stock is at customs and that they will be receiving stock this afternoon, but i contact MTN and as usual the person on the other side does not know when they will receive stock, so he says maybe in December or Jan 2011 are they all dumb f c u ks or what
 
ok guys ... whos going in this morning to check what MTN is gonna say? let us know if they intend on giving us the phone we so
deservedly want and have been waiting for, for so long !!!

Edit: OH and dont be shy lets us know verbatim all the Profanities u used when they tell u it will prob be out next yr!!

I spoke to a guy at vodacom on the weekend, when I asked about the Desire HD, he didnt even confuse it with the normal desire. However, he proceeded to ask the manager about it. This extremely dis-interested lady said that they expect the phone this week or next. So due to the fact that an ordinary vodacom shop seems to be clued up now, I am starting to see some promise for the very near future
