Finally got a reply from vodacom:

"As per the feedback we have received from our Procurement Department,the HTC Desire HD estimated time of arrival is the first week in December.
Only once the handset is launched at Vodacom will the prices and packages be available."

I think they may be telling you slight un-truths. Autopage seems to have the packages up fine for the DHD

Thats exactly what I want - how is autopage though? Haven't dealt with them in years.

Haven't ever dealt with them. Being using Nashua Mobile for the past few years. At least they seem one step ahead with these package lists though

Oh and regarding Virgin Mobile. From personal experience I would stay far, far away from them. Their deals might seem great, but service is beyond terrible!
For the duration of his 2 year contract, my brother had endless connection problems. He used mxit a lot and not once could he stay connected to mxit for more than about 30 seconds. Popped his Vodacom sim into the same phone and voila, all working fine. Many many phonecalls and emails later and all Virgin ever did was to blame mxit. He decided to give them one last chance on his upgrade because of their 1000 free sms deal. They stuffed up his contract and eventually had to give him a completely new number. To this day he has still not been able to get his old number back and this is 2 months later! I will stick with blue!

I saw Virgin Mobile advertising the DHD for R 320 pm with R300 airtime & 1000 sms's yesterday in the newspapers.

thats something to think about ... but I dont like them that much ... they were promising 3G forever and only recently actually had it... also .. they dont have data bundles etc... best to go on contract with either vodacom or mtn.

felt compelled , to join ,to say a few things and thank you all...!!!
yes,i have the "Beast "@ htc desire hd, now for 3 days.....(awesome phone...!!! )

just a few background details of me....( so that you know ,i know " a little bit " about this type /similar ...of phone and its ....hardware capabilities , battery life etc.. " ..o/s .... etc.etc)
i had the htc tynt 11, and htc touch hd ( have winmo on main device, with " xdandroid ",vers 2.2 running off, storage card , very smoothly .....i also belong to xda forum for past ,+- 2 /3 years.
).......and now the htc desire hd..!!!
well first of all..this phone does have a slcd screen ..i compared ...touch hd screen to ...dhd ( desire hd ) screen in sunlight ( visibility ) , noticable difference, dhd is much better.!

yes and now big question..............battery life..?
well ,i will give you my opinion.. so far....reasonable... .not bad ...!!
i will give you this example..eg...
i did a simple" control test .."
,with wifi off, 2 g, sync off..etc
left phone for past 2 nights , 100% charge...sleep mode.. one stationary position....
battery usage was +- 85 /86 %...... after 9 hrs.....!!!
(works out to me... battery usage 1.6% per hour.. sleep mode ..no usage ?)
above is just an example..but yes, once you start using it ..(well then ,my htc touch hd was the same.)
it then starts to "eat " battery power..!!!!
(further , i must also add my son has the htc wildfire ..his battery usage at night ..same control test... ... after...+- 12hrs ... .. phone ,still showing 100% battery ) but you have to see it in context and remember this.....!!!!!

i did a quadrant bench mark test...
end result according to ...quadrant test.( not me ).
( also note... it tests ...the cpu, memory , 2d graphics ,3d graphics )
HTC DESIRE HD.................tops the log !!

yes, i know....
i tested to see re..screen readability of sms ,emails, applications ,etc in full sunlight..
to say the least its ..good..!!
.. to me , a very big improvement ,over what i was used to,on touch hd..!!

note,
you can easily ,read in full sunlight,
where my touch hd i could hardly... see anything/read anything..!!!
further,
1.according to me 8 mp camera takes good pictures ( for my standards anyway.)
2. .....got 8 gig sd card..
3.yes ,the ringtones is a" bit soft," (to what i was used to.) but hey,
used a 3rd party ,ringtone application and after connecting ..dhd... to pc,( very fluent and easy ,copied my favorite "loud ringtone" and message notifications ,over to sd card ,choose it as ringtone ,using relevant "ringtone application " and i had my loud ringtone !!

,also note ..
." htc sync application " vers.3.0.5439 .exe " ( bundled on sd card ), that you install on pc ,
this allows you to sync..dhd ...calender ,music..etc ..
plse note,when you use htc sync( sooner or later )
,it will notify you that there is an update available for your current htc version .
it looks like a reasonable biggish update ....
note.
just finished, update for htc sync..=- 80mb..!!
further...
i use option " disk drive " most of the time to access my sd card files.
just plug cable to pc open, disk drive..etc on pc..

.also relevant ..drivers for pc ,etc ,is all preloaded , on sd card..!!)
