HTC DESIRE HD

Honestly dont know why everyone is stressing so much about the navigation on this phone, I mean its only 280 bucks to upgrade! you get south africa which for 90 percent of ppl is all they gonna use, the voice is clear and the smooth scrolling screen just looks gorgeous! it works perfectly as well! if you want a high end specific navigation source then go buy a R3000 device!

I agree 100%!

The navigation works really well, doesn't use your data bundle when navigating & the big screen just makes it a joy to use.

My battery is lasting around 18 hours after doing the cycle thingy I suggested earlier...

Does anyone know if you can get a car to USB power adapter? I'm not looking for a car charger, but rather a device that plugs into the 12v socket, and then takes a USB cable?

Thanks ^^ I actually have one of those. I'll see if it works.

I need it for charging - but getting tired of buying car chargers because manufacturers keep changing their connectors, i.e. Mini-USB is now Micro-USB

Can you download the entire SA maps as a pack?

The SA maps are already on your phone..... and another reason why I like it! Saved me a 500MB maps download & it's not kewl on a 2GB Vodacom data package.

Bought a Bodyglove charger for R90 iirc from a Vodashop - works brilliantly. Just be sure to get one that is able to provide at least 1000mA current. Many, many car chargers only output 500mA, which will see your phone lose charge - just more slowly - if you've got the GPS running.

Also xrapidx you'll be happy to learn that micro USB is the new cellphone standard. All manufacturers have been strongly encouraged to default to it. Handily it means that wifey and I can use any number of her BB, my HTC or generic chargers with both our phones.

Well thats all I wanted to know :) I'll be upgrading then when I have some extra dosh :) Is there anywhere to check what other maps are available....?

@ Charlie...a dedicated navigation device does NOT cost R3000, just FYI ;)

Ok, I've discovered something about the Desire HD - the battery drains at a rapid rate if you're in poor 3G reception area, with 3G switched on. Rather switch data networks off and just go on good ol' GSM.

So, at home I just keep it on wi-fi & the battery lasts much longer. Also tried the battery trick where you charge it for 8 hours+ while the phone is on, then unplug the charger, use it for two minutes, switch it off and charge for another hour. Actually looks like it's working.

Will test it some more. ;)

Yeh... most phones chow batteries when searching for better reception, I always switch 3g off on my phones unless needed.

What is the widget called where you can switch-3G,wifi,airplane etc etc on and off instantly...?

Now running cyanogen mod ROM with latest Google apps package. Pretty sweet improvement over stock package. Must figure out how to get STD keyboard back though.
