how are u getting such good battery life???I hardly have any apps running and I'm just about getting a day's use!!!wat advice can u give
Hi roldstar, sorry for the late response, had a hectic day, but here goes :
HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR DESIRE HD'S BATTERY LIFE
1. First of all, when I just got my phone, the battery wouldn't last very long. Only now after 2 months that I'm really starting to see a big difference.
2. If you have crappy reception where you are (jumps between EDGE & HSDPA a lot), rather use wifi. Just make sure the wifi router's signal is strong. What I have found is that anything with a "weak" signal, makes the phone work much harder and longer....for example, with full signal HSDPA, it takes a second to update/sync stuff, while if you only have EDGE, the phone is busy much longer to sync/update. Same with wifi, strong signal = quick updates/sync, weak signal = much longer update/sync times.
3. The mail app can kill your phone quick. If you have one, two or three mail accounts running through the mail app, your battery life will never be great. You can change the time intervals the mail app uses to check on the mail server/s for new mail, but I think the default is 10 minutes. Up to you to decide it it's an important mail account that needs constant checks, but if you change the interval to 5 minutes, your battery will take a bigger hit. Solution? I'm running two other mail accounts through Gmail & it has improved my battery life considerably. Only drawback is that the other mail sometimes take longer to drop into your Gmail inbox.
4. Syncing a lot of accounts. When I first got my phone, I had Friendstream, Twitter, weather, Facebook Contact list - well, basically the whole shebang - enabled. It kills the battery fast, especially with a weak HSDPA/wifi signal. I used it for a while, but then stopped all the syncing. Only account that is synced is my Google account, for contacts, calendars, etc.
5. Widgets on your home screens. Your phone will have the HTC theme by default, with lots of nice widgets on the seven screens. Use it for a while & see which ones you really use. I have only 3 homescreens that I use now. The first one is my calendar, second one is my main screen with fav icons & next screen is the bookmark widget. I guess I can delete the widget and just put the internet icon on the main screen, but I do like the widget and use it a lot.
6. GPS & mobile data network settings enabled. Needless to say, your battery will drain in no time with GPS enabled all the time (some of the apps & widgets will use it regularly if it's enabled) and if you only want to make phone calls and won't be using any data, switch "connected to mobile data network" setting off. You will save a lot of battery juice.
7. Dodgy apps. It's nice to download apps from the market, but some apps are buggy and can cripple your phone. Good example is the latest Engadget app, for some reason my phone started to stutter with it running. Uninstalled it & all was well. I normally don't install an app with a star rating of less than 4 and also look at the user comments. It does help a lot.
8. Using auto brightness and live wallpapers. The live wallpapers are very nice, but they do keep the CPU busy a leetle bit = sips battery juice. Rather use a static wallpapers & preferably a dark/black one. It uses less power than a funky bright wallpaper. My phone is set to "Auto Brightness", but you can untick it and dim the screen lower to your liking. It will save juice.
And this is how I get 2 days' battery life out of my phone.
Hope it helps.
