Well, the HTC Hero was awarded phone of the year 2009 by Stuff Magazine, T3 Magazine & Mobile Choice Consumer Awards, so I reckon you had a HTC Diamond and thought it was a Hero. :p
 
Identity, you shoot down the DHD because of android market yet you claim that n8 is good. I have seen people trying to get apps for symbian, its much more of a hassle than on android. Yes it us true, one can't buy apps in SA, but still android users have a **** load if free apps to choose from, how many has symbian have?

Google did say we will have a paid market in South Africa soon.....and I'm gonna be optimistic about it.

We always get the raw deal in SA. I remember when I bought my iPhone 2 years ago, first thing I wanted to do was download music from iTunes, just to get a notification that it's not available in your country. I've given up on Apple a long time ago, cos they don't see SA as a big market for them.

In Google I trust. :)

It's true. One of my colleagues had a Diamond, which he despised. I showed him my phone, and once again he has an HTC and is lovin' it! In fact, he's now decided the entire office need these phones :D

Even so, there is a mindblowing difference between Android 1.5 and Android 2.3. If you had a bad experience with a Nokia 9210 Communicator would that stop you getting an N8?

But please, this is an HTC Desire HD thread to help and discuss with those people that either own or are interested in owning a DHD. If you want to discuss the virtues of the N8 versus the DHD, or the problems you had with the HTC Hero then start another thread.

You can already view paid for apps on the website market :D So only a matter of time now! (Not that I'm bothered about it, I rooted out the box and have Market Enabler installed)

I was just happy that I could get all the apps I had on my iPhone for my Desire HD in the Market as well + Angry Birds & Gun Bros, so I'm happy. But it would be nice to be able to purchase the paid apps.

Lets hope it will be soon.

So true! My sister has the SE Xperia X10 and when her phone still had Android 1.6 on it, I sort of expected the same when I got my Desire HD.....and got a huge surprise when I switched the phone on for the first time. :)

The teaser video of the Evo 3D shows Sense 3.0 and Gingerbread running together and it simply looks fantastic. Those home screens that spin in a 3D carousel mode looks awesome....and I can see myself spending hours flipping through home screens, just to see the 3D mode. :D

If you've followed my posts (which you haven't), you would have noticed I actually prefer Android (the OS).
My issue is not with the OS, rather the fragmentation of the system.

Fact remains, that although the Android market has thousands of apps, because of the fragmentation, some will not work on other versions of Android (2.1 vs. 2.2 vs. 2.3 vs 3). This is not the fault of the OS but rather the fault of Google.
Yes you will have more apps than Apple in the next 2 years (if current growth continues), but a vast number of those are of dubious quality. This, again, is not the fault of the OS but rather the policies in place, set by Google.
If you allow and accept just any person to provide an application, you will get applications designed and developed by monkeys, that run like that.
Yes, Symbian has a comparatively microscopic market vs. Android and Apple and will stay that way for a long time to come.

I never implied that the DHD is a bad product. What I did do is put things in perspective. Clear the fanboi-fueled smoke filled air.
Sure the DHD is HTCs party piece - as an entertainment device it's unrivalled (save, the iPhone 4), but that doesn't make it any more of a smartphone than any other circa 2005-current smartphone on the market.

So yes, you can clamor on about how you love to dive into thousands of apps (of which you will only experience, or want to experience a fraction of), that's good.

Is that why you bought the phone?
Can you list 3 reasons why the DHD drew your attention, as supposed to the (list any other Android phone in the same price bracket)?

I tried reading through this, but all I see is bla, bla, bla, bla......Desire HD.......bla, bla bla.......DHD......bla, bla, bla......DHD.....etc.
Please leave us fanbois alone......this boring interuptions is almost killing the mood.
 
What I don't understand us that identity comes into a DHD thread and then calls us fanbois, we are in the frigging DHD thread, ofcourse we are fanbois.
