HTC DESIRE HD

I'm using the beatmods ROM. The camera doesn't work 100%
I can live with that though.
So far it's not too bad, but it's the first ROM I flashed so have nothing to compare to.

I downloaded the miui.us after reading your praise for it and also downloaded the galnet ics ROM.
Gonna try some different things to see what works for me.
A stable build of ics would be good though.

Last time I checked Beatmods still it did not have the tether working? Something I do use quite often.

Virtuous Quattro also have some issues with the camera, well it works, it just have some problems not showing the picture every time.

I am currently on Galnet ICS merge. Seems to be stable 2 days and counting (as long as I dont reboot cause I have to manually select SP)

wifi tether works. I tested it today as well. All fine.
So far the ROM has been stable. But it's only been a day.

Also check out Cyanogenmod. I think their ICS update is due this month

Yes but they first focused on the Nexus S as it was essentially what googles code was built around being the previous flagship handset. AS far as i know they have not yet started working on other devices as they just hit V1 with the Nexus this week, could still be a while before stable builds are out for other handsets.

Ok my battery life is still not great at all even though I'm now on a custom ROM.

Somewhere in the forum I read about an app where you can disable background data on a per app basis, but it required a root which I have not done at the time.

I'd like to try it now that I rooted but can't find the app at all, or the post I read back then.

Can anyone help me out?

I'll revisit the threads giving battery saving tips as well. It's not extremely important as I use this phone for browsing and entertainment so won't be stranded, but would be nice to get some more life or if it. might even make it my primary phone then.

  • Juice Defender Polls data radio and schedule nighttime's so your phone dont waste power while you sleep.
  • Watchdog Task Manager unlike other useless task managers this one is based on CPU usage with alert/kill settings.
  • PowerTutor Display in mW how much power each application use, Find the drain

Thanks. I'll be giving them a go. Still not sure of the exact one I read about but this is more than adequate.

PS the Reason I added the power management section is I think you will have more luck with those apps than limiting data on a per app basis.

Edit: I would say 1st install Juice defender or if you feeling adventurous BatterXL as you will get much better results.

I am testing BatteryXL right now... well for the past week or 2. seems ok, a bit better than Juice Defender

Thanks Elements!
Reason I wanted to limit data, was to prevent apps from constantly refreshing in the background, thought it would help. installed a few of the apps now will play around with settings and see which works best.

I know you are... I'm referring to this. Have just come to prefer the interface over Clockwork...

Hmmm that looks cool... will give it a go sometime this month, seeing that this device technically only need to last another month I can practically go ape and just play with everything without fear....

Still havent decided if I am going to go Samsung Nexus or Raxr Maxx.... maybe I should just hold on till SGS 3 announcement....

Can tell you I'm very happy with the Sensation. I feel a degree of loyalty to them after the Touch Pro and the Desire; their material quality, if not necessarily build quality, is just sooooo much nicer than Samsung's. The battery life isn't fantastic, but I'm so used to just plugging in every night that it's a non-issue to me. Besides, with a charger in the car and my compulsive need to have the GPS running it gets a top-up every time I step out.

I think we're entering a bit of a different phase in Android's life cycle: I doubt there'll be much benefit to a quad-core phone; the software needs to catch up to the point where it's actually stressing current hardware. We saw the same thing with PCs. Today's top-of-the-range rigs don't even break a sweat doing what 99% of folk use them for.

I wouldn't go the Nexus route now as I'm pretty sure the next Google phone will be a Motorola. And I love the look of the Razr, but not being able to remove the battery? Thought that's Apple's game...

All that being said, I don't think anyone has much reason to be dissatisfied with any current mid- to high-range 'Droid. ;)

Ok after some playing around.... I Like.

Things worth mentioning, the ROM has a build in SetCPU like app that is set by default to 230-1100 and has ES File Manager installed as a System app, camera still has some minor bug's like not displaying onscreen till you take the 1st photo. Other than that its very cool

Oh and I tried to take a video to demonstrate the overall feeling but for some reason it came out very laggy, dont know if its the app or ICS?

Well my loyalty is wearing thin. Use to have a Desire and then Desire HD but there blatant lack of security concerns makes me think twice.

For example the latest WiFi issue http://blog.mywarwithentropy.com/2012/02/8021x-password-exploit-on-many-htc.html
