i've had my HTC desire for about 6months and it's been running flawlessly, until a few days ago. it will just randomly restart, sometimes just once and then it runs fine, sometimes it gets stuck in a loop of restarts for about 15mins. anybody else have a similar problem and is there a solution?

I take it you don't have a rooted/custom rom in the device?
Re-seat the battery, Remove recently installed applications.
Last resort, back up device and reset to factory defaults. If the re-seat and reset did not fix your problem you most probably going to have to take it in as it would then point to a hardware issue.

I had this issue and apparently it happens to quite a few Desires. Google boot loop htc desire. It started after 3months, tried different batteries, roms, reflashed, deleted, wiped everything and nothing helped, infact it just got worse over time. I had to send the phone in for repairs to HTC (Leaf) via MTN. Leaf ran a stress test then replaced the motherboard. Took 2 months to get it back but now works as good as new, no issues at all.

When I finally sent it in I had to unroot and put the stock rom back on. It was basically unusable with the stock rom, just kept boot looping.

I had this problem with my Desire. Every now and then it would randomly reboot, and then get stuck in a bootloop. I thought it was a problem with the ROM I was running (Oxygen 2.01). And that may still be the case: since I've upgraded to Oxygen 2.03, it certainly feels like it happens a lot less frequently.

Also - 2 months to repair a phone? Geez, that's terrible service.

mine has the factory ROM in it. i did a factory reset, it seems ok. does a reboot at least once a day though. i am concerned about sending it in though, 2 months for a repair is definitely too long!

Let me elaborate. I sent the phone in and got it back after +- 3 weeks. I had to send the phone back in straight away because it wouldn't switch on and the whole process started again another +-3weeks.

You might be able to speed up the process if you can get it straight to HTC (Leaf). I went through MTN and that can take time because they just send it to Leaf anyway.

Sigh. Same thing happened to me. With my sony ericsson. I sent it in cause the buttons stopped working. Got it back after 3 weeks and they still didn't work and had to rebook it straight in again.
