HTC Hero

I've got it in my hands - pretty cool so far but will give you an update tomorrow when I have everything set up

How much did it cost you, and on what contract?

:)

Very exciting. I think I have passed up the HTC hero and will probably go blackberry this time around.

The ONE thing that was holding me back on the Hero vs. iPhone was the speed. Apparently it was a big sluggish.

Well, an upcoming firmware seems to have fixed that nicely! Now I REALLY want one of these things!

I have the iPhone 3G and my girlfriend has the Hero and although it is a really nice phone it is just too sluggish. They spoiled a chance of an iPhone killer by using dated hardware. The phone will annoy you with its speed. The iPhone 3G is miles faster and feels way more responsive so I can only imagine that the iPhone 3GS will slaughter it.

new ROM update will apparently fix the lag - I haven't noticed anything though.

I got it for R2500 on an MTN anytime package - go to the Autopage website and click on upgrades - it tells you EXACTLY how much the pay in is for the various contracts. Vodacom and MTN. They have stock of the phone. Hurry up and get it - it's awesome!

DAMNIT..im going to have to wait till December before I can move over to Nashua and get this phone due to "contract obligations" with VodaCrap *sniff sniff*

got mine today and it's awesome!!!!
some minor irritations (lack of file browser) but I'll look for an add-on.

Otherwise it does everything that I want....and way more.

Went to Nashua mobile Midrand HO today to pick mine up after getting an email from a consultant telling me it was being held/reserved/ready for collection ... and

They gave it away to someone else while I was away in PE on business yesterday.

OMF. Even showed them the email. Was greeted by speechless faces and general low IQ's. Then something about "the system bla bla bla excuse excuse sorry sorry wait till next week". Lol.

Man did I throw a sh_it storm.

After an hour of bitching - of all the people to walk in the store - the HTC rep appears.

Tells me that 50 more phones are arriving on Friday, Nashua will be delivering to my house. They suspect they have underestimated the initial demand. Guess you should get one while you can - I see a month long shortage coming soon to a store near you.

Fc_uk I was pissed.

Maybe I'm stupid - but can someone explaine to me why Nashua mobile can get stock of the phone from Leaf and regular Vodashop outlets can't. Surely Leaf should release the phone to the entire market if it's not limited to one SP.

Just got mail from VodaCrap.
They will be releasing the phone in October on their packages.

Lets hold thumbs and hope that they order enough phones. I will go prebook mine this weekend.

No can do....even though I am allowed to "renew" my contract now it only expires in December 09. Which means that I will have to pay penalties if I move\cancel before contract is finished.

And if you stay with Vodacom but move to a SP like Autopage? The contract will still be with Vodacom, why don't you phone Autopage and ask them if that could work - I think if you stay with Vodacom you would be able to do it!

Nope. They basicaly open a new contract for you on thier infrastructer (if I can call it that). I spoke to Nashua yesterday and the consultant stated that the contract must be finished before I can port it.

Im not sure why. But its no train smash, gives time for more bugs to be detected and sorted before I get my grubby hands on a Hero...cant wait though.

Does anybody know what connection speed the hero will have?
What does the Magic have?
Do you pay to use the GPS?
