HTC One Android smartphone unveiled

Even if that was true, who cares? It's like going on about how a new car has the same wheel nuts as an already existing car.

Wheels and nuts are not part of design, are they? Curves and lines are. In which case yes, car fanatics would certainly care and notice if one car was imitating another.

All this noise is distracting from what we really want to know...

When is this hitting the SA market and with which operators?

Its expected on shelf in April.

Sigh ... come to think of it this my 4th HTC device and the one thing that
really does rub me up the wrong way is the fact that HTC is the ONLY provider
that doesn't upgrade its base OS/firmware for its devices Samsung sony nokia lg
even huawei does! when will HTC start looking after its users?

The HTC One is enabled for higher speed LTE (Long Term Evolution) networks, but is unclear whether the device will be launched in SA.

The HTC One (LTE) Version is being launched in SA (confirmed by HTC South Africa) and is expected in April.

If they released the update and users believed the experience was less than on ICS, they'd potentially take bigger hit as more Desire HD users would be unhappy.

If HTC allowed mod developers to easily find out how the camera drivers etc worked then we wouldn't really have an argument.
I wouldn't mind the lack of support from HTC at all if they made it easier for cyanogen etc to support hardware that they couldn't. It just looks like they were trying to push users with old phones to upgrade.

when will HTC start looking after its users?

When they don't have any left.

When they don't have any left.

Judging by the response we're seeing from local users to the HTC One, and the fact that we're here on the forums, I don't think you're correct :)

Wow, just absolutely flippin wow!!!!!

Can the fanboys shut it already they are spoiling the moment by derailing this thread into yet another android vs Apple thread, this is a fantastic looking phone with some great features AND build quality,I'm a slight Sony fan but this phone just blows the Xperia z out the water even IMO.

An android phone that isn't too big with a 1080p display and Apple like built quality in aluminium?!!!!I cant wait to get my hands on this one ,especially if the screen contrast and viewing angles are like that on the one x which had the best screen i have used to date.

Pity they did not include removable storage, but considering thats its only flaw I doubt the s4 is going to top this because Samsung insists on making cheaper looking/feeling devices while HTC has taken android right up there into iphone build quality with this phone.

Well done HTC ,this is quite a phone.I'm sold.

I currently have an HTC and am due for an upgrade in March, so will def look at this.

Snap. The HTC One is currently on top of my short-list although the price will be the decider.

It will be removable, but try it before you decide you don't like it...
Not according to Ars

"If you like everything about the phone but BlinkFeed, you’re out of luck: as the phone ships, BlinkFeed is the main home screen, and reps tell us there is no way to change this."

Overall the HTC One is looking pretty sweet. Though prior experience with HTC and software updates will make me think twice before going with them...

HTC's build quality has always been ahead of Samsung's. It doesn't seem to matter in the sales end which is a real pity. I do think this is an outstandingly well made phone, and it's clear that they're completely desperate and willing to throw everything they have at the wall to survive.

If true I would not even consider touching it. /But I am sure that some custom ROMs will remove it.

HTC says that BlinkFeed was designed to be flexible, and they encourage consumers to personalize it. You just press the home button to toggle between your apps and BlinkFeed.

If you prefer the more traditional homescreen, you can easily change BlinkFeed to be your secondary homescreen or opt not to have any sources feed into it.

So is BlinkFeed just a widget on one of your home screens in Sense 5? Or is it part of Sense 5?

In either case, can you just install another launcher to get rid of it?

I don't see how they can enforce a fixed homescreen in Android without fundamentally locking down the OS. Seems almost certain that it's just part of the Sense 5 Launcher.

Think that would be the case but someone said "no way to remove it", guess its better to be sure.

We haven't seen the device as yet, but there will be options around how you handle the Blinkfeed.
