HTC One with stock Android announced (with prices)

Seems they are starting to realise that more and more people just want stock android that gets updated as soon as a new release comes out.

Trouble is, acquiring a Nexus 4 aint easy
This one looks OK

Finally, an Android device *available in SA* that I could live with.

I have considered Android a couple of times but my requirements are
* New version of Android
* Good solid build (Blows out most Samsungs)
* Stock Android - Blows out Samsungs
* Avail in SA easily with warranty support
 
Sundar Pichai, the new Android lead at Google, announced at the D11 conference in California today (20 May 2013) that Google will sell a model of the HTC One running stock Android for $599 from 26 June 2013.

  2. If you want a vanilla Android device go the DIY route, or should I say "root"?

The big manufacturers releasing 'Google Editions' of their flagships? I thought Samsung were just pleasing their fans but now HTC as well? Motorola might do the same and I'm sure Sony is also thinking about it, and why not, the S4, One, Z, X(?) all look drastically different from each other so no need to go crazy with skins. I wonder if we'll see a move away from Android skins (Touchwiz, Sense etc etc.) and a focus on features like all the crazy stuff in the S4 and Zoe etc. on the One...

All we need now is for Apple to release a phone running Android :D

An HTC One model relying on the same version of Android as Google's Nexus brand will go on sale on June 26 for $599. That's the same day Google Inc. will start selling a Samsung Galaxy 4S that runs on a pure version of Android for $649.

Most consumers have been paying about $200 for the HTC One and Galaxy 4S since their April release. Wireless carriers subsidize the smartphones in return for a two-year contract commitment.

Google's phone sales aren't tied to any wireless carrier. The devices are aimed at people who don't like the revisions that HTC and Samsung made to the Android.

seriously what is holding back google to offer the phone#phones in SA directly? Amazon seems to be able to do it with it's kindle?

SA Tax laws

As it stands now, Google pays little to no TAX in SA. Something I am sure WILL have to change if they started selling goods in SA.

Well I am comparing to the Nexus 4 which was available from the Pay Store but not in SA

The impression I got is the HTC One is being brought into SA.
Or did I miss something?
 
Nothing to write home about really. Sense is just so much better than stock android. It's in another league altogether.
 
The Neo (HTC One) is already available in SA but it is the HTC'd version, so not stock Android.

It is unlikely that the stock Android model will come to SA for the same reasons that the Nexus 4 didn't.
However, if you really want it, there are ways to get it.

The Nexus 4 can be imported directly from Google for a fairly decent price. You could probably do the same thing with the Neo Stock or the S4 Stock from the Google Play Store.
