HTC One X

Finally got the quote. R2012.90, I actually thought it would be more. Waiting to hear how long it's going to take.

Thanks for the offer of assistance :)

Got the phone back today. Good as new :)

I rooted yesterday. Got a bit tired of the battery performance so that was my main reason. After rooting and installing JuiceDefender, I'm getting close double the usual battery life so far on default JD settings. Its great to see the battery on 25% and it saying "7 hours remaining". I've been interested in installing CoreControl which can increase the battery life even further by manually controlling the cores.

Another reason was multitasking. For whatever reason, different users of the One X are experiencing multitasking acting in different ways. Some get MT the way its supposed to be, others (like me) experience MT in such a way that whenever I switch between apps, the damn app has to reload. It is SO frustrating when you're typing a message, then switch apps to grab info from the browser or GMail or whatever, switch back to Messaging and BAM your message is no longer there. Multitasking does work if I switch between apps quickly. If I leave something open for ~30s then it has to reload. I've lost a lot of stuff already :( There is someone on XDA who has made a fix for this which I'm to get onto my phone, but I cannot find the /init.d/ folder inside local/etc/ !

The rooting process was quick too, though I lost all my local information (Settings, SMS's, Contacts, Dial history, App Data) when I unlocked the bootloader. So just make a backup before you start the process!

I've been experiencing similar multitasking problems and it's particularly annoying as i use gtalk throughout the day and without me realizing it, it hasn't signed me out, or kept me signed in - It's just frozen and i don't receive messages until i switch back to the app and it sort of "reloads". But i don't switch back unless i receive a message notification.... you see the problem.

Have you flashed any particular ROM? It seems the users over at xda seem to be enjoying substantial battery improvements with custom roms and kernals without the need for apps to control the battery usage

Yeah very very annoying.

Nope, I'm still on stock rom. The more I read about Android Revolution (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562603) the more I want to try it out. When I get some time next week (or Sunday) I'll install it! I'm hoping going to a custom rom will fix the (hugely) annoying multitasking issues, which is apparently cause by HTC Sense as out-of-the-box it's a massive memory hogger. The fix I mentioned is located here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1669074) - though I cannot find the folder to put it in, even though I've followed what the developer put down. Maybe you can gain something from it :D

JuiceDefender, while good, has its quirks. The wireless control is slightly annoying but the gained battery life I get makes it worth it. Ideally the ROM should be controlling the battery.

Yup android revolution seems to be the safest bet. I think as soon as the 1.29 kernal source is released and the devs have rebased on that, im gonna hop on board.

BTW not being able to find the folder is weird. Have you enabled the showing of hidden files in your file manager? And what file manager do you use?

What a stupid problem. Would the same happen with WhatsApp?

Yep. I can get into /etc/ but cannot find init.d! I've even enabled the Root view within ES File Explorer but no luck.

Just read that the 1.85 update helps the multitasking issue?

This phone is teh sex. If only it ran iOS... Bah, may just get it anyway! It's ****ing awesome!

:P did the whole Android thing before, with an HTC Desire. Switched to Apple after that, and haven't looked back. Android may have come along in leaps and bounds since then, but haven't bothered to find out (or restart my phone).

iOS works. All the time. End of. ;)

P.S: ICS does look tasty, however, so may be tempted to give it a try (with a One X, of course).
