HTC puts future hopes with Android and Windows

inb4 windows phone has already failed, Android can likes to be much betterer !!1`one
 
While HTC’s One-branded Android phones unveiled earlier this year have been enjoying good reviews by analysts and tech blogs, this has not been reflected in its sales.

After screwing over DesireHD owners that were waiting for ICS, did they really expect us to upgrade to another HTC phone?

That wouldn’t mean we’d want to dial back on Android

I would have got a One X in a heartbeat, if they hadn't pulled an Apple by not including a MicroSD slot. That was a seriously stupid move.

But the article is pretty pointless anyway. They're backing Windows and Android? Well duh, what else is there??

The overwhelming majority will not need more than 26GB of storage on their cellphones in the next 2 years, including me, so that phone is still a very strong contender for my next upgrade.
 
There are a lot of reasons the one x did not sell well, but I think the top 4 are

- No expandable memory
- No inerchangeable battery
- Sub par wi-fi capabilities
- Sub par GPS functionality.

errrrrr noooo ....

wifi was a hardware issue that was resolved with later model releases ... GPS functionality !???? where did you pick this one up from

in this country the reason the HTC one x did not sell well is purely down to HTC not having marketed the phone properly ... but to be honest every time i enquired about an HTC one X at most stores they tend to get sold out very quickly, or they dont stock enough of the phone ... so maybe they are selling well, or they just not stocking enough of them

so my reasons

1. poor after sales service
2. poor accessory availability for the phone
3. Quality issues on earlier models (wifi was sorted, but some devices still have other manufacturing defects)
4. marketing

Well then "the majority" are doing it wrong. A few albums of MP3's easily eats up 5-10GB. I have about 20 abums on my phone which is not a lot but it's 5.3 GB. With something like the Galaxy SIII that supports USB DACs and has a pretty decent one built-in already you might want to use FLAC files for your music as well, which are much larger. I've got 2GB of apps on at the moment, which isn't a lot really, (96 of them even including the stock apps like Phone, Email, etc, some people have hundreds). 3D games then use another GB each of other storage for their data files, I've got about 3 of those installed currently. Then I've got a few DOS games to play with ScummVM or DOSBox. Another 2.5 GB is used for audio books and about 1GB of podcasts. I don't really use it for photos, but some people go nuts like a Japanese tourist, which would take up another few GB.

And then, the big storage requirement: With something like a GSIII or One X with those big, pretty screens, you will want to watch music videos, episodes and/or HD movies on it. Episodes are between 350MB and 1.4 GB, depending on the length and resolution, etc. In the civilised world, mobile internet is uncapped (or as good as), and fast, thus cloud storage is used a lot more and you don't need as much space on the device. You can also stream anything in your library from your home server via the mobile networks whenever you want. That's why they give you 50 GB free Dropbox space with the phone. In SA though, that's pretty much impossible (or LUDICROUSLY expensive) and you'll need to store everything you want on the phone.

Saying "it's enough" just sounds like a certain other company, who everytime they leave out something glaringly obvious, use the excuse is that "no-one needs it ololololol." Even if you don't need it, the fact is the competition all offer vastly more storage especially if you pop in a 64GB card. They screwed up.

Remember, 640K of RAM ought to be enough for everyone...

I believe HTC cannot - unlike Samsung - handle more than one OS. They should decide on one and put all their effort into that one. They will fail trying to please users in two different ecosystems. Decide on one OS and rather bring out phones and tablets for that one OS than trying to stand with one foot on one continent and with the other on another and have a Big White bite off their balls.

No. The overwhelming majority are not tech fundies, and just want the biggest and best phone. They are not interested in milking the device for everything it's worth. 40 - 50 albums of 256kbps MP3's uses just under 9GB on my PC, for the majority who aren't audiophiles that is more than plenty. Where you might have a point is that a flagship phone should have that feature, an enthusiast device and all.

If one has 25GB and the other 35GB, that's not that big of a deal. But you can have double the space for the price of a 32GB MicroSD card (about R250) and upgrade to a 64GB card if you some some spare cash, or when prices drop over the next year or so. And like I said, it's very easy to fill up all storage with just music (FLAC was just an example, it's quite easy with mp3's as well). Movies and games will eat it up in no time. Besides, if you want the biggest and best phone, why get one with a massive feature lacking, especially considering all previous htc's had microSD slots? It's still a great phone apart from that of course, but if I had one, I'd constantly be reminded of how much more media I could have had with me everywhere.
