HTC Touch Diamond

Hey guys. I'm am really looking fwd to getting a Touch Diamond. Thing is, u guys seem to be having lots of hassles with this phone, so i'm not so sure anymore. With all this probs that ur having, how come everyone still insists that it's such a great phone. For now, i'm inclined to think that this phone is brilliant, but only on paper. Can anyone convince me otherwise, 'cos I really still like it? ;) :D

Well, aside from Arthur's run-in with the toilet. The Touch Diamond is a rather decent phone...

The only issue for some people might be getting used to entering all the information via the screen.

The speed and performance problems are being worked on and have been greatly improved in newwer ROM updates.

And most of the requests to customize the TouchFLO interface have been catered to via add-ons from the XDA-forum.

Opera

the only thing that im not happy with is the the Opera browser. it hangs and slows down the phone. ive upgraded to the new rom and it is still doing it. other that that it is great. it has more feutures then the iphone and it works great as a modem.

I guess tomorrow I will tell MTN to pull the trigger and renew my contract and get me this baby. On a MTNAnyTime350 contract the pay in is about R2400.

I had a look at the dummy versions of both the diamond and the touch pro yesterday. I must say I really like the touch pro's hardware keyboard, even if it makes it quite a bit heavier. I'm also going to MTN tomorrow to renew my Procall 300, and will decide then which one to go for (depending on the pay in for the touch pro).

Cheers,
Nick

Qwerty font after ROM update

Hi. I'm new to the forum.
I've got the HTC Diamond, and uploaded the latest ROM, but I've encountered 2 problems thusfar.

Firstly, in the phone screen, my "Contacts" menu has changed to "Video Call" (on the left of the screen). How can I change this back to the "Contacts".

Secondly, the font on the Qwerty Keyboard has changed from the default. Only the alphabets have changed, the numerals are still the same. How do I change this back to the default.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Regarding the 'Video Call' option - as you say in a later post this was an intentional change - con't know why, as the 'Contacts' option was much more useful....

I also have the problem of the changed font on the Qwerty keyboard. This only applies for the lowercase characters. Uppercase and numbers are normal.

My colleague downloaded the ROM using his serial - I then installed from the same file. I doubt this would have an effect, however. Other things: I have clear type text set to on, my text size is set to fairly small, I have Skype installed. I have Flash installed and I have added Gmail and Hotmail (Windows Live) to my mail accounts. I also have Leaf Locate and Google maps installed. Perhaps one of these installs has caused the issue?

After the first soft reset the keyboard font was back to normal, but at some point it reverted to a different font (similar to courier).

Right now I am just living with it since it isn't such an issue. Just interesting that I am not the only one and it would be nice to know the cause.

I've discovered that on a reboot or startup, the font changes. However, if I go to the "Touch Input Settings", and select one of the keypad options (Full Qwerty) the fonts go back to normal. This has been the norm for now. :)

Is there any place in Joburg with stock of this phone (MTN)?

I'm going to take it on MTN200 with no pay-in, and 3 month down the line try to convert the MTN200 contract to an Anytime contract of some sort - will see how much the pay-in is then...! (The Omnia is also available with no fee on the same contract, but I'm going for the VGA screen over built-in GPS app...)

Sorry for the derailment, and i'm putting on my firefighter suit.

A very good client of mine got the Touch Diamond just when it came out, he was very impressed until the screen started giving him issues, returned it to VC. They told him 10 days waiting time, he looked @ them and said bugger this give me an iPhone. He was here with the iPhone yesterday hailing it as the cellphone he has ever had. He said only thing they needed to fix was to add a sideway keyboard.

P.S Playing with the iPhone was fun. :)
